I'm getting ready to go look at an '86 IROC-Z28. I just talked to the guy on the phone about the car. It has 115k miles on it.

Here are all the bad things he said about it. The paint is fading and has some surface rust. There is a dent on the drivers side door that knocked the mirror off(forgot to ask if its back on, so im not sure about that). Thats it for the exterior. Has no stereo in it, not a huge deal for me. Inside the car he said the middle part of the steering wheel where the airbag would go if it had one is missing. The passenger side window button is pressed down into the part around it and doesn't work, and the windshield wipers don't work(not a big deal for me for a couple reasons. 1, Rain-X . 2, he thinks its just a fuse, but not sure).

Now for the good. He said it starts up real well and runs just fine. All of the electrical stuff works fine too except the one window and windshield wipers.

He did say it was loud, and he didn't know if someone made it that way on purpose or if there is a problem with the exhaust. He was probably in his 40's-50's by the sound of his voice and the way he talked about his son and stuff, so I don't have any idea what his idea of loud is.

Anyway, what do you think its worth? He's asking $1295 obo for it, but If it's like he says I don't know what I should offer him for it. And how much do you think it would cost to fix/replace the window button, center of the steering wheel, and mirror if it's still off?

Its kinda hard to guess what a car is worth without pics. Who knows how bad that dent is?

i would try to get him to about 850 or so

 

I know they don't have them, I'm just saying that is the way he explained it to me. Do you really think i could get him to go down that low? He's asking $1300 for it.

Mirrors you can find. I have a couple. Switches you can get new yet, I think for under $10. Wiper motors you can get. I have one. Value depends on interior condition (rips, tears etc), rust and rust through. How it runs and drives, leaks, A/C work etc. If the car was nice, it is worth $1300. Needing paint and rust repair etc, I wouldn't pay more than $1000, more like $800 if I was looking. Good luck.
