hay guys i am thanking of parting out my 1988 gta trans am ..the only thing i plan to keep is the motor and the rims and tires unless i was offered a trade for some nice camaro rims .. reason for this ..because of my stupidity left the keys in my car and it was stole .. police found it in a chop shop haft striped and the vin tags are no longer there and i have no ideal where the title got off to .. so i got to part it out and looks like scrap a good shell ..unless someone wanted it for parts and parts only.since there is not title and no way of getting another one for it with out a vin.. all i can say is thank got i am good friends with the cops and they all new my car and it helps its the only one around in my town..
so what i need to know is how much parts sale for for this car as i really want to just get a camaro ether z28 or i roc with ttops and got to be a 5 speed.. the gta is all in good shape sep a dent in the pass fender looks like it would be an easy fix and the front cover is tore at the bottom .. the rear end gears have been change at this time i don't remember what they are but you can tale at take off and the long run there not og ..and the trans is brand new 700r4 auto with a shift kit from hell and set up for a corvette .. the interior is an 8 1/2.. reason i say that is the driver seat has a small tear and the head liner is gone and there might be some cracks in a couple peaces of the plastic not for sure have not really looks out of 10 the glass is all good.. i have put the car back together but since i cant get a title for it again its got to go so i can get a camaro .. but it does start and run at this time .. plz take a look at the picks and tell me what you guys thank

it sets just like you see it i have put the car all back togather because i was going to going it again.. but since i have no way of getting a vin back on the car it cant be .. but as you see it in the pics is how it sits in my drive

 

Not trying to push but I just got a duplicate title made for my Camaro, all I had was an old registration and my id and 25 dollars later I had my title in hand. You could also check to see if the RPO sticker is still in the center console (if it wasn't stolen) it will have the vin on there too. There should be ways to get through this without parting your car.

 

there are ways to do it but when missing the window vin tag is going to take so much they use a special ribit to put them in so the car got to be taking to have the plat put in wich is where the money starts to realy become an problem.. as i am a father of a 1 yearold who no longer has a job and cant seem to find one i got to realy what how i spen every doller i get in my hands.. i am going to be listin the stuff on craigslist till all is gone and going to just scrap the body .. beleave me it does sading me to have to do this but with the money i am going to save a camaro form deth .. i have allways liked the camaro a little better myself

 

VINs typically are stamped in multiple other places, meaning you could PROVE it is the same car. And IL has no way to re-register a car that has lost it's VIN tag? Surely there is a way to re-VIN tag a stolen car.

Hell.....Make you a new VIN tag, go to a junkyard and get the rivet tops from a car there. Bond your new tag in the correct spot & glue the junkyard sourced rivets in place. Paint over the top, like it would be originally.

Nobody will ever be the wiser or look close.

 

you need to check with the highway patrol on this.. in missouri, the hp will issue replacement vintags for the stolen one. It costs little to nothing and is easy to do. they will provide replacement rivits and everything. If i remember right... it $25 and 2 trips to the hp office. 1 w/the paperwork, 1 to install the replacement vin tag 2 weeks later.

on the title, the duplictate title cost like $7 (???) here, again no problem

one last thing, the scrap yards won't take the shell without title or visible vin plate... so you will have to get it straighten out sooner or later...

 

You can get that car retitled. There is no reason to scrap such a great looking project car. If you are intent on scrapping it then fine. What do you want for the front seats, the entire dash and all associated wiring, and the digital HVAC controls?

 

contact the secretary of state police.
they can reissue you a vin tag.
it wont be in the same spot.
The new vin tag will be on the door jam.

Guys, Ill has some reeeeally strict vehicle codes and laws about titles and stuff.
They are goofy,you have to do it their way or they take it..

The org vin is stamped on the firewall behind the AC box and inside rear frame rail.. I think its hidden somewhere else also.
