Shop for Rear Gear Install in Quad Cities Area?

I'm looking for a shop to install a 3.73 into my 9-bolt series 3 carrier. It has a 3.27 now, but I've got a new Randy's Ring and Pinion 9-bolt gear set and master install kit waiting in my garage now for a few years. I'm hoping to find something local in the Quad Cities Area. I'm actually 45 minutes South/South-West of QCA. Anyone use any shops in that area? How much was the price for the labor on the installs?

I called Kriegers in Muscatine, IA (GM Dealership). The guy didn't seem very helpful at all over the phone. I told him I wanted a price quote for labor and fluids for a ring and pinion install on my 90 firebird. I told him I had the gear set and the master install kit which should have all the bearings and seals and it was a Borg-Warner 9 bolt. I waited 3 hours+ to get a call back. I went into the dealership on the way home. He told me he was the only one working and he had it wrote down he just hadn't gotten time to get the price quote yet. I asked him if they've worked on a B-W before he told me no but they've done other rear end work. So I think I'll pass just on the fact they can't lookup labor hours with 5+ hours left in the day and call me back. Probably make a few more calls around today.

Older gentleman at Kriegers apparently has forgotten about me already.

I called Essig Motors in Aledo, IL (GM Dealership). After talking to them for awhile they originally told me they couldn't install a gear set for me because I have a 383 and that's not one of the motor choices. I told them just to pick the 5.7 Motor option and they said $500 for labor without any thing taking extra time.

Kriegers called me back they said $749 for labor and that's if nothing breaks or goes wrong.

Wallick's Auto Service in Davenport, IA quoted me at $77 an hour and approximately 4 hours so $308 for labor. The guy seemed knowledgeable.

I'm waiting on a price quote for A1 Quality Car.

I also tried Autoruns in Davenport, IA they don't do install ring and pinions.

A1 Quality Tire and Car Care from Muscatine, IA called me back. They said 5 hours for $390, $28 for lube, and $7 for posi, so $425 before taxes.

My father owns a shop in Dixon, IL and we did mine. Put the 3.73 in about 5 years ago. If you want to call the number is 815-284-4970. He is open mon-fri 8-5. The company is Ranken's Transmission.

Dixon is about an hour away from the QC taking I-88 east.

Re: Shop for Rear Gear Install in Quad Cities Area?

I went to check the rear end out prior to having any work done. After teardown and removal from the car the posi cones are on the ends against the casing and I have 2 of the 4 spider shafts broke. So I can either spend $375 + shipping from 9bolt.com, then $300+ labor for gears, + $600 in extra brand new parts I have bought. That's basically 1/2 the price of a 9 inch though.
