High school car project

Hello all
My name is Michael Short I'm a high school teacher and Indianapolis area and my students and I are working on converting a 89 Trans Am to Knight Rider. So I'm just looking for a little bit of help I'm trying to find some of the hubcap bowling ***** for the Knight Rider build. With that being said of course I will be replacing the rear bumper I have new seats for the car and different rims for the car that are all shown in the pictures so if you're interested in any of these parts please let me know but if you could help me with the bowling ball hubcaps for my project that would be great as well. I keep seem to striking out when it comes to this one particular part without having to pay thousands of dollars that I do not have to buy those hubcaps

Re: High school car project

A metro-Detroit area H.S. one of my nephews attended was building a 3rd gen. while he was there taking shop classes. Cool project you have! Best of luck with it.

I have no lead on parts, particularly the bowling *****. I do recall a thread here where someone spoke about 3D printed repros, but they were pricey if I recall correctly.

As a Plan B, I did see this car at the Trans Am National this year (and at the Woodward Dream Show / Dream Cruise). C4 wheels with the centers painted black. I thought they did an admirable job of mimicking the bowling ball look at-a-glance (your not fooling anyone, but getting some of the same styling effect). They are also an era-appropriate wheel, and C4 parts are still pretty reasonably priced compared to newer Vettes. Just a thought.

Last unhelpful thought: How about a summer class trip to the Trans Am Nationals in Dayton, OH? The kids would learn a lot, could ask a lot of questions, might even see a few KITT cars that you could talk to the owners about. There are usually some free seminars that they might enjoy (I know H.S. kids don't always love sitting still for long presentations, but what a memory in future years to be able to say they saw presentations and met with men who had designed and engineered these cars while they were still with us).

Re: High school car project

There are a few companies that have the wheels and hubcaps. They're really expensive. I haven't seen them for under 2k. Part of the issue is the companies are often in italy/Germany/Spain and the shipping is an additional issue. Knight rider is really big in Europe.
