carlisle that good?

Hey the spring carlisle event is coming up, and i have heard on this board alot about it being great for looking for third gens. My father and i took a trip out last year, on the sunday (last day). it sucked big time, but we knew that sunday was going to be when people were leaving but it was the only day he could get off. I was justing getting into f-bodys and throwing around the idea of them or R*ce Rockets, so i really wasnt looking for irocs. my question is, does carlisle have alot of iroc's not only for sale but in general are there alot there. my main goal would be to go there and buy an iroc but if not get some info one-on-one with owners of these types of cars. I have my eye on one in chicago (i'm in jersey) that looks good but carlise is closer and probably more honest. but would it be worth sticking it out and wait for carlise? I know that each year changes but just from what you guys saw in the previous years. hopefully you guys could help me....albert III

If you want to pay WAY to much for a car than I would wait for carlisle Those cars for the most part are to overpriced there.Keep looking locally there HAS to be someone sellling a decent Iroc in NJ.

What are you looking for in an IROC? Milage, price, stock, modded, etc?

If you can get there on Thursday (Might even be Wednesday this year), get there then. Most of the GOOD deals are gone after the first day. But, what is left on Sunday can usually be gotten for a good price because sellers do not want to haul it back home.

As far as Carlisle sellers being more honest, I think the opposite is true. Sellers take stuff to Carlisle looking for the non-knowledgeable buyers with money to burn. KNOW what you are looking to buy, and what to walk away from.

You will get better and more honest information from these boards than Carlisle sellers.

There are also deals on parts. As an example, last year, I found a set of FIVE Firehawk rims for $400 bucks. The deals are out there, you just have to know what you are looking for and what it is worth.

As far as 3rd gens at Carlisle, I have not seen a decent one in the car corral the past couple of years. That does not mean there will not be on this year.

Buying a car long distance is tough. Pictures do NOT tell the whole story, no matter how good they are. I agree with Steve, try to find a car as local to you as possible.

i would not want to buy an over priced IROC at Carlisle.. im going 2 days for the Spring event.. thursday w/ Vo-tech and Saturday.. at Carlisle u just have to wheel and deal.. if u think somethings way out there give a reasonable amount and if they stick then just walk away.. IROC center caps are around the side where subway and the icecream is by i forget which gate.. they should be 4 for $35 still of not $40 for 4 is a good price also..

I have been going to Carlisle for the last 20 years since I was 8. We found our 89 GTA 305tpi/5spd w/ 70K there a few years ago. Last year my dad sold an 87 Iroc 350tpi w/ t-tops there. One year we took 3 GTA's. It is hit or miss though. The year we purchased our GTA there were quite a few there and last Oct. there was only 2. My father may be taking up his 87 305tpi 5speed Z28 it has T-tops and we are currently rebuilding the transmission. Replacing bearings and the intermediate shaft. It's not a show car but a good driver. But he's not sure yet he might just put it away in the garage after it's fixed at the end of the week. If it's there it will be in front of the pavillion in the car corral.

I really like to see more 3rd generations there for sure!

Deemax:

Last year, I was heavily into 2nd gen cars, so I passed on them. Even so, it was tough not to buy them and resell them, because I knw what they were worth. Now that I am back into 3rd gen cars, I am really kicking myself for not buying them. I know I could have gotten them a lot cheaper, as he had them at the end of the day on Saturday, and was cleaning up!

Hope to find a deal like that this year, though!

I will look for the car and say hi.

just got back from carlisle last night. it was my first time going to the show it and it was a blast. i didn't see too many third gens, just a handful.

The reason some of the cars there are over priced is because the owners don't want to sell them, just to show. Its a rule that all cars in the show have to be for sale.

i walked away with........

2 third gen front seats for 5 bucks....a little rip on one of them..

as i was ready to leave i saw a full set of 4th gen camaro seats for $400.....i thought this was a little pricey so i offered him 350 and he accepted...U just have to bargen with them and most of the time they will give in!!!!!

We also just got back from Carlisle last night. We saw a few 3rd generations but nothing we were excited about. But then again we were actually looking for a pre-79 model this time. We did see a nice 87 Black GTA for $5900 Friday evening but it was raining. We thought we'd check it out on Sat. morning but it was gone when we got there. Weds. there was an 87 Bright Red GTA w/ 26K for $15995 then by Sat. morning it was down to $8995 I don't know if they sold it or not. We also saw a 91 Z28 Black Convertible for $9500.

My dad never did take his 87 Z28 305tpi/5spd because he sold it 3 days before we left for $2500. My mom took a plain old 91 Blue RS and sold it for $2200 there.

We found a set of Beechwood GTA seats for $125 they cleaned up pretty nice and a set of 78 WS6 wheels just in case we do get an old one.

Friday seemed to be the best day. Saturday just stunk! No new vehicles came in and the car corral was getting empty around 1pm. We did see a lot of cars sell. An aquiantance of my dad's sold his 78 Red Trans Am. We even saw are old 77 4spd there all beat to hell! It was a sad sight to see.

We hope to make it to GM Nationals since we missed last year. If not we'll be there again in the Fall

Oh my goodness! My husband pointed that out to that guy that on that white one that it wasn't a 350 but a 305. He said yes it was so my husband just walked away. They also had a Turbo 80 Pace Car that was pieced together and had plain old firebird tailights in it. Those guys used to bring really nice cars every meet now it just looks like they are hurrying up and making them look good just to make a few bucks. They did sell the 4th gen. red Trans Am they had.
