hey guys

i'm posting here instead of the for sale, b/c i want to get an idea for the going rate of my car, for my area, since prices vary across the US

i'm from ohio and I am going to be putting my car up for sale here in 2-3 weeks.

1987 Camaro Iroz-Z
305 5spd
49,000 original miles
Perfect original paint
tires only have ~8,000 miles on them
flowmaster exhaust
B&M Short throw shifter --still have original
cd player with bass tube --still have original radio --not a hack job
nothing is wrong with the car and she is CLEAN
$350 California car cover
no rust, no snow, hardly any rain, stored indoors always

everything else is completely stock except for the water pump which i changed a couple of years ago because the seal went bad on it

I paid $7k for it

I'm using this as a downpayment on a Z06 so I'd like to get a nice coin out of it, and if it doesn't sell right away, no big deal

so what is she worth -- i.e. don't go below this price

what should I ask? and try to really get outa it

thanks a lot guys!!

I am located near Sandusky, Ohio

half way between Toledo and Cleveland, right along the lake

I don't have any pictures right yet. I am going home in 2 weeks to take pictures of the cars.

It is red. I think there was at least 2 differen't color reds? This one is the bright, almost cherry/firetruck red. Really pretty. Not the ones with the more brown in it

oh and it has the golden interior. not sure what the official color was called

Really depends how clean it is. Everything is "mint" in a description. Not saying yours may not be, just saying, condition is objective.

Clean low mile cars on ebay are bringing decent $. Average cars bring average prices. Crap brings, well, crap

Not real sure. Maybe 7-10k range depending how clean it is. Really varies based on market area...

i'd have to agree with stuart. if your car is as nice and low mileage as you say the 7k-10k market is there. if you're trading it in on a z06, i definetely wouldn't settle for under 8k. i saw a mint indy pace car edition camaro at a dealer a few years ago with around 65k miles on it going for over 5k.

I'm going to sell privately, I figured I would get more money for it.

so is 8 the minimum? 9? what should I start at? I mean i don't want to price too high to scare away people

me personally i wouldnt pay more than 6,500 but i dont see why you couldnt get closer to 8 i think you should ask 8,400 and dont take less than oh say 7,300

Unfortuantely our cars don't hold much value and usually don't demand very high prices. I have seen some go over 10K on Ebay but those are with extremely low mileage, like 15K and under. I've seen a number between the $5-$8 range so you may be in good shape. Look on Ebay, you usually can find something similar to what you have or close enough and use it has a guide, watching has the auction goes and seeing how high they go for. If you're a registered Ebay member then remember to also look under completed items for more cars that sold recently and see what they went for.

if your only using the money from selling your camaro for a z06 be prepared to spend a big nut on the note it all depends on what shape the car is in. i (like everyone else) have seen people try and sell there cars for 10-15k. thoes same people still own those cars today. not saying you wont sell it for 7-8k range. so if your looking to get more than that i think you will have a hard time.

on ebay you can probably get 6k-8k. Since you live in ohio, I know your situation trying to sell it at home. Your best bet will be to sell it on ebay or autotrader.com. There isn't really a high demand for our cars, espically with winter coming up. You'd have a better chance of getting a good price for it when spring comes back around, and younger drivers are looking for a toy to play with.
