Hello everyone. My name is AJ, I'm 19, I live in upstate NY and I just purchased a 1986 IROC-Z28 automatic, with t tops and I'm very excited about it.
The man I bought it from has been working on cars his whole life and has owned 8 camaros. He had a lot of work done to it... Rebuilt engine, all new fluids, new belts and hoses, interior changed out, new shorty headers, new exhaust kit that was modified to fit the car, new intake carburetor, full electronic ignition, new door lock cylinders, new stereo, body work, a fresh viper pearl paint job in '08 that cost $3,500, and other new parts and other work.
The mileage reads 34,800 but it is most likely 134,800 but with all the work done to it, the car doesn't reflect the higher mileage at all.
His reason for selling is that it's been in storage for 2 years and he no longer has the room for it. It was his son's car but he is away at college so he was looking to sell. He was asking around $4,500 obo but we agreed on a price of $3,500 with a speaker box thrown in, the extra paint that was used, a new rear hatch, and all the parts for hooking up the AC. Good deal for an IROC ??
Let me know what you think...

Looks good
its got dual exhaust too. maybe the dynomax" kit?
only problem i see if the craptastic edelbrock carb and filter, bit other than that, looks pretty solid. It would be worth the effort to at least get a new air cleaner. Those foam ones can catch on fire if the car backfires, and that can be bad
is the rear wheel on the driverside sticking out more than on the other side? you may need a adjustable panhard bar
oh, and it looks like the AC comp is still there and has a belt on it, but the hose to the AC box are gone?

looks very good +1 on getting rid of the air "filter" if you can even call it that... im also confused as to why the compressor belt is still on but not the rest of the a/c stuff lol
I've only had the car for a few days so I havent had a chance to do anything yet. And I also am away at college to I have to wait a few weeks to get back to it. thanks for the tips though. Right now I'm just worried about getting it ready for inspection.
The AC parts are still there because the previous owner never got around to installing the AC. I have all the parts needed to complete it but I don't plan on doing it to get the best possible mpg.

and I think it's just the angle of the photos that makes the wheel look like its sticking out more on the driverside.
What size air cleaner can I replace it with?

a stock setup uses a 14" filter? maybe its a little smaller. if you dont use a stock setup, make sure you get a drop base air cleaner so it will clear the hood. Its a little close with a carb setup.
