Mustang Shifter Handle

Bit of a random question, and I apologise if it's been asked before, but:

Has anyone used a Hurst mustang shifter handle with their T5? A handle like this one:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Hurst-Chrome...-/281808136566

I'm talking specifically about the handle - not the shifter itself; I know the plate is different between the Mustang and Camaro.

I'd use the handle with a Core or Hurst shifter base. I know the longer handle will result in longer throws, but I'm not looking for an ultra-short throw shifter, and I like the look of the long, swan-neck shifter, and I think a longer lever will be more comfortable to use. And look awesome.

So, anyone used one? Would it clash with the console, would the curve place it too far back? Any pics of one installed would be cool.

Thanks!

Re: Mustang Shifter Handle

i don't remember seeing bolts on the stock t5 handle. i don't think it would bolt on. now if you want a great shifter, the PRO 5.0 shifter assembly was awesome on my T5. i now run a steeda tri ax shifter slightly modded on my Tremec TKO

Re: Mustang Shifter Handle

Sorry, my post was a bit wordy!

I'm not going to use the stock shifter - I'm going to use a Hurst/Core shifter. It's whether I use a 7.5" straight handle, or try the 8.6" double-curved handle intended for the Mustang.

I've heard a lot of good reviews of the Pro 5.0 and I'm tempted, but I'd love the look of a classic Hurst shifter in my car!

Re: Mustang Shifter Handle

The Hurst Comp-Plus (best T5 shifter in my book) and Billet Plus (IIRC) used a similar stick without the rear offset. I like the simple, useful design.

I have a seat adjusted fully back in most vehicles; the aft offset wouldn't benefit shifter position for me. If you like the look, go for it.

Personally, I would go out of my way to get a shifter / stick with splined mating surface; not sure if Core has anything like that. Lacking this is a huge negative of the Pro 5.0.

Re: Mustang Shifter Handle

Thanks jmd,

I was sitting in the car at the weekend, mulling it over (car's off the road!), and I think you're right about the rearward crank not really adding anything.

I might just get the Core shifter with the stock-height handle (although a 9" one might be good) and go for the mustang handle if a cheap one comes up for sale (highly unlikely over here in blighty!)

Do the Hurst handles all come with the splined mating face? I can't see any on the handles I'm looking at, but I'm relying on internet images...
