87 GTA Feedback/Honest Opinions - Ohio
THIS IS NOT A FOR SALE AD. GTA IS NOT FOR SALE
As a thirdgen member I have been out of the loop the last several years for various reasons. I am debating on putting my GTA up for sale and would like some honest feedback as to what the thirdgen community would think it might be worth if I decide to go down that path.
I have a 1987 Pontiac Trans AM GTA with approx 110k miles on the body with only approx 10k miles on the engine.
87 GTA w/t-tops
-ZZ383 Stroker motor from GM
-Longtube headers
-Holley Stealth Ram intake
-CPU switched to speed density
-Custom dyno tune producing 380 hp and 426 ft-lbs torque
-T-56 manual transmission (6 speed for those who didn't know)
-Moser 9" rear end built to fit 3rd gen fbody with 3.90 gearing
-Adjustable torque arm, sub frame connects, tubular lower rear control arms, panhard bar, new sway bars all around
-newer carpet, seat upholstery, headliner, no cracks in dashpad
-RAM Air I fiberglass hood
-GTA wheels professionally refinished (silver) and almost new tires
-'92 fiberglass spoiler conversion
There is a lot of money invested in this car and without making this thread really long I just wanted to highlight the main points. The paint is predominately original, the top of the car was repainted before I bought it 10 years ago and you can tell the difference, one rust spot about the size of a quarter on the front fender where the ground effect mounts (I was going to take care of this when it was painted). Typically door hang marks on ground effects with the exception the drivers side door hinge has been rebuilt with grease-able fittings. Like many car enthusiasts I have something in the neighborhood of $15,000 to $20,000 invested in this car to this point, and would like to know opinions on its value if I were decide to sell. My other options are to pull the motor/trans and sell the rolling chassis. The last thing I want to do is part the car as it is a very solid GTA that I have had since 2001.

I'd say between 7-9K in my opinion. I am no expert though and it is just my opinion.

i would say start at around 8k but take know less then 6k. a buddy just sold his 88 gta 3 weeks ago with 143k on it for around 7k here. very clean car people was stopping left and right to look at it. he once told me he had 8k in it just on the drivetrain. yes, he took a loss but i guess thats how it goes sometimes?

Re: 87 GTA Feedback/Honest Opinions - Ohio
I appreciate the feedback, it looks as though I may need to rethink my approach. It is very disappointing to know these cars still have not turned around in resale value yet (a stiff economy does not help). Considering I have almost $7,000 in the motor itself I am pretty sure I would not be able to stomach selling it for 6-9k. I may look at pulling the motor and trans and selling the rolling chassis, then the trans and hold onto the motor for my future project since it will fit into any older GM car. Or pick up a lower cost 350 and swap out the motor and sell it for the lower price.
Any thoughts on a worth of the rolling chassis without the motor/trans?
