Looking for tuning help!

Anyone in the Rochester to Buffalo area of WNY know anything about tuning a MegaSquirt or anyone who does? I'm pulling my hair out trying to tune this engine right and it just seems to get worse no matter what I do. Anyone?

Re: Looking for tuning help!

<<<I recomend purchasing the full version of Tuner Studio!>>>
the VE Autotuning feature is worth every penny. I got more out of that program than a trip to the chassis dyno.

What exact problems are you having?

Re: Looking for tuning help!

I've had the full version for months... Autotune doesn't want to work. Every single time I look at the screen while driving it's got the yellow box in the corner that says "O2 out of range" while the O2S is registering between .3 and .6 volts (if that).

The problems are numerous...

1. IAC seems to end up with a different setting each start. It works (I have 2 of them and they both work), but they tend to run the engine about 1500-2000 at idle with cold start (when fully warmed up) and then the idle speed is lower with each successive start throughout operating range.
2. Hard starting, especially when hot, no matter crank pulse settings.
3. Somewhat of a hesitation off idle when trying to accelerate while cruising.

Mostly, I either need a driver or someone to work with the MS as I can't do both at the same time.

Re: Looking for tuning help!

Well since I am in washington state, I cannot help in person, but I can try to help from here.

What o2 sensor are you using? (The Innovate LC-1?)
What firmware version are you using?
1.) Sorry, I cannot help much on this one.
2.) Once you tell me what firmware you are running, I may be able to help you with this.
3.) Look to your accel enrichment. Are you 100% towards TPS. (It is best to start this way.) with the megasquirt on and the engine off, pull up the menu controling accel enrichment. Then pump the pedal and see if your TPSdot is even registering on the chart. I needed to bring the default numbers way down in order for TPSdot to read on the graph.

For some of your issues, it may be worthwhile to move this thread to the DFI and ECM forum.

Re: Looking for tuning help!

Stock narrowband 02S as I can't afford a wideband ATM...
No AE. None. Even with the PW set as low as possible, the engine gets so rich that it essentially dies until the AE duration is up (what I call the off idle "hole" where the engine goes quiet until AE times out). I turned AE off by setting the TPSDot to 110% and the off-idle "hole" is gone. And yes, I had it set to full TPS usage.
I believe the firmware is MSII 2.92 (wanted to get the 3.x version but it wouldn't install for whatever reason even after several tries).

Right now there isn't much I can do as I'm having issues with my starter...

Re: Looking for tuning help!

Wow. It will be very difficult to get the VE in the right area with a narrowband o2 sensor.

Did you get the latest firmware from the MSExtra website?
http://www.msextra.com/doc/ms2extra/upgrade.html
This site has the instructions for upgrading. It also has a program that lets you update the firmware without messing with the jumper.
