Just wondering if anyone is in my area... I live in Livermore and I am happy to help you work on your car, even have a big shop but no lift yet (Unfortunately) maybe hang out and shoot the **** or something... Really looking to make some camaro owning friends around here, that way maybe when I want to do something to my otherwise stock camaro I can get/give a hand.

Thanks,
Seth

Re: Who's in my area?...
Got a quick question,
I have a 70's four bolt 355 (machine work is done) I am considering building up for my camaro, I will convert it over to a roller cam and roller lifters. I should be able to use some newer style aluminum heads on this block right?

I basically want to do a swap from a 305 TBI to a 355 TPI...

This is my $1000 Camaro...

Needs a little love, but pretty damn nice for a grand, the interior is in awesome condition with the exception of a few stains here and there.
Bone stock, trying to do something about that and needs suspension.

I am across the bridge in San Mateo. My car is not up and running yet. But should be soon. I got my first gen back from the body shop and working on putting that back together first.

I'm jealous man, noone is up here in Yreka to hang out with or at least check out their cars. There are several F-bodies around the area, but not in that great of shape I see lots of IROCs but are all beat up.

j/k

If it's a TBI which I suspect it is, I can give you LOTS of ideas starting with what I heard first: GET A NEW MOTOR.

Well, if you like reliability and 220TQ it's fine. Check my sig for some mods / improvements to consider.

Re: Who's in my area?...
LOL, thanks guys...
So I ordered some KYB GR-2's for the rear because I am flat broke and the @ss end is bottoming out. The front is all sloppy (Or maybe thats just stock?) but I highly suspect worn out everything. Most of the suspension parts I plan on making myself, for someone who has a welder and a brain and is good at computer aided design this is a no brainer... I mean, a wonder bar? Its a piece of 1/8" wall tube steel welded to two plates with some holes drilled in them? Any reason why I should pay Over $100 for one when I can make one for $30?
Same thing with the rear links... Seems silly to me but I guess most people don't have the tools or confidence to do it.
Also, the white... Yes, that will be changing since I have all the equipment to paint cars as well (Must construct a makeshift booth) so I am going to do a similar paint job as the guy who was featured in that magazine (I can find it but I am sure you know which one I am talking about) only I want to do black top and red bottom.

I do need a new set of tail lights. As you can see, some monkey @ss glued some piece of crap plastic to the back of one of the lights and it looks like someone else tried to take the other one off (It was epoxied) and ripped up one of the housings.
I did see an add on craigslist (My new best friend) for a nice set for $30 but I could not get ahold of the guy...

Re: Who's in my area?...
Oh, who does bodywork?
I want to get this thing shaved before I paint, I can weld up holes and such but it would be nice if someone who has done this before could chime in and at least give some advice.

Re: Who's in my area?...
Front ends are not sloppy stock, if you drove the car in 1987 or whenever it was new it would have been great.

Add 20 years of potholes and 200,000+ miles for some, EXPECT SOME ****ING WEAR!

If you can make a LCA / wonderbar for $30 or less, great, but factor in your time spent researching exact dimensions and CAD time hourly and you will realize aftermarket $100 isn't so bad.

2-tone paint jobs make baby jesus cry as well.

Welcome to the board BTW

Was in the Army myself... Looking at possibly getting a DOD job.
Will definitely have to kick it.

Above poser, last time I checked wonder bars were about $100... I agree, its not that bad, but since I enjoy those kind of things there is more value in just doint it myself.

Re: Who's in my area?...
the GR2's give you that "cadillac" ride. then again I didn't by a thirdgen for comfort. the fronts are ok, but I think the rears could be a little stiffer.

also I just check wonderbars are still $60, unless you want the spohn adjustable.

Definitely NOT looking for a "Cadillac ride" but it has to be better than hearing/feeling the car bottoming out... If I take a sharp turn at speed when I straighten out I hear a "THUD" from the back wheel wells. I dont think its the transmount as I can actually feel the car bottoming out (Though the transmount could probably be replaced as well) I am hopping these will fix the imediate problems untill I can procure more fundage to do something with the suspension.

Well hell... $60 is almost not worth me making one myself.
Unless I can make a better one? still, that rout seems to be making less sense. But a sub frame kit? You have to wonder how many wled on kits they sell. If you have a welder then you should be able to pick up some steel and make them yourself.
I think the rear links I was looking at was what cost $100, which is basically a steel tube with two small sections of steel tube on the end and some prothane inserts.

BTW, just found a typo on summit, going to see if they will honor their mistake and hook me up with a set of rods for $33.95

Re: Who's in my area?...
Interested in a set of LOW MILE Iroc swaybars and LCA's? They are almost like new with no rust. I put the Spohn sways on my 87 and was actually kind of disappointed when they were the same diameter and the front was waaaayyyy heavier than the stock hollow one...

I'm in Tracy and can bring them to Livermore. I was thinking about putting them on Ebay but figured I'd see if you wanted them. I'n not sure what they are worth, but I'll make you a deal...

Re: Who's in my area?...
Got mine today, I am going to install them tomorrow and I will let you know what they are like...
So today I am playing cat and mouse with this green 4th gen on the freeway, we get off at the same exit.. I am behind of course. It was the North Livermore/Portola exit which comes to a four way/freeway overpass (I am sure you know what I am talking about, one off ramp, one on ramp intersecting a street right next to an overpass) So the light was green to make a left turn under the overpass and there is a fat *** blind spot when making a left turn because the exit comes right along side the overpass. I am about 15-20 feet behind the fourth gen at this point, somewhere about 30-40 mph (Est) and some dumb b1tch on a cell phone comes flying through the intersection (on a red light) in a mammoth SUV and slams on her brakes, she locks up, the dude in the green fourth gen would have been T-boned if he had not split second reacted (I still don't know how he saw it coming because of the blind spot) and swerved way out, got sideways and pulled it off (Dude busted some off the hook spur of the moment drifting shizzle)
Remember I am still doing 35ish into what I thought would be a nice long turn under the overpass when this happened, it was the first time I used the headrest, as a brace between the back of my head and my foot on the brake pedal. (Thats the hardest I have ever stood on a set of brakes) I came to a stop about two feet from T-boning this stupid **** AND THEN she has the GALL to **** her head sideways and throw up her hands with this WTF look on her face AND THEN throws the SUV in reverse and stomps on the gas WITHOUT LOOKING BEHIND HER!!! There was some dude in a blue third gen behind her who backed up when he saw her coming at him in reverse! I got around the corner as fast as possible (Since she moved) to get away from this lady and all I see is some dude in a blue third gen looking at me with his mouth hanging open.

I caught up to the guy in the green fourth gen at the next light, he looked over at me a just shook his head... His eyeballs were (__________.__________) This big... (__________.__________)

If you read that whole thing, this is not a bs story, please be aware that some of the stupidest people on the planet now have there drivers licenses. And yes, this lady on a cell phone almost took out THREE Camaro's at once (Including me)

I hope the image better explains...

Re: Who's in my area?...
Just got the GR-2's in the rear installed, let me say that actually having rear suspension is much better than bottoming out all the time. The struts that were back there were the ORIGINAL struts, they compressed supper easy but were actually a fight to uncompress... Think reverse suspension.
The GR-2's are a little "Loose" I don't know how else to explain them, but a definite improvement from where I was.

hey I am in Fairfield and I live just right behind the Solano Mall, and yes I drive one of the most beat up thirdgen's in the area but I am making plans and money to make it look better than the common ones here, I can get some pictures later if you want!
