ive been in the market for another thirdgen maro for a few months now and came across one kindof close to my house that has been sitting on stands. so i knocked on the door and asked him how much he wants for it. well turns out he wants 3 grand for his 87 iroc. its got the 350 in it with only 70,000(hasnt been proven yet)miles on it. the interior is all taken out but he says he has all of it. only aftermarket stuff hes put on it has been full exhaust. the body looks straight with some surface rust in a couple spots. the tires are about 50% tread and the wear is pretty even on all 4 tires. i havent seen the interior parts yet but he says its got all the options that the dealer offered. so my question is should i jump all over this car or should i keep looking. he said if i give him the full asking price he will throw in an extra full tpi system just for s&g. from what ive seen on craigslist those are a grand by itself.
first time post for me. never had to because everytime i have a question i seem to find it in search on this wonderful forum(kissing butt might help lol)

3 grand not bad. If you have the cash take it, if you are not hooked on getting this exact car ask 2,200 and maybe settle in the 2500 range. Either way you're not getting ripped off and he's not getting much profit.
Take a look at the underbody for rust, check for non-stock under the hood stuff as well.

On Probation
2500 sounds about right, especially considering having to reinstall the interior.

you guys can't be serious, i don't think i'd pay a cent over 1500 considering the interiors gutted. Nothing about these cars screams 3 grand (oh no, blasphemy), especially when you need to do anything to it. I say either show up to his door with 1000 bux cash or keep looking for something else.

I gotta agree with Jesse a bit on this one. 3K would be fair IF he reassembled the interior and got it running sweet for you. This also includes your inital smog. I would pay 3k for an IROC if it was complete, low mileage, and looked and ran very good. At around 70K miles it should run like a top with no major issues. If he expects you to do the work 1500 would be my absolute highest, and if it doesn't run even lower. Next time you talk to him see what he is going to do for that 3K. If he wants to hand you a nice, clean car you can drive away and drive daily, then 3K would be fair. But if he expects you to do that work yourself and won't budge on the price, I would suggest to keep looking.

I totally agree with the last 2 posts.
For 3 grand, it better have the interior back in, run & drive, inspected & good to go.
I paid 3 grand for my 87 GTA 3 years ago & have fixed VERY little. Just the fuel pump, the tranny & new headlight bulbs. The old ones worked, but were old & dim.
Even $1500, as it sits, would be a big stretch for it.

he gutted the interior to replace the carpet and just never got around to puting it all back together. so the first thing i thought of was leaking t-tops but i saw the old carpet and there was a coffee stain on it haha. the car does run just fine. i heard and saw him drive it down the street one day. and the vehicle was just smoged about a month ago. thats what he says anyway and the reg seems to match his story. its interesting you all think 1500 is the right price. i only find beatup 305s for that price. i realy dont want the 305 but ill settle if it looks good. if anybody finds a good deal let me know. im in the antioch 925 area code.
sorry no pics.

I shopped for thirdgens for 6-8 months before I found a good deal, and that was over 3 years ago. Paid $1500 for a pretty decent T Top RS with a 350 swap running and smogged, drove it 100 miles home.Originally Posted by greezy

Well, again 3K might be a fair price IF he is willing to re-assemble the interior for you. If he isn't then try to barter him down to a price you will feel good about being compensated for the work you will do. In the end it really comes down to this: would YOU feel good about paying this amount of money for this car? If you're ok with the price and are getting a deal you feel good about then go for it. I don't think you're getting ripped off at 3k, I just think the car should be completely assembled for that. If he has it smogged, but wants you to do the interior work, offer him 2K and go from there.
