I'm starting to get some money together to get my rear end built. Does anybody know about this shop? I ran across them on an online search.

http://rearendshop.com/index.html

I've gone through the engine and transmission in my car. The rear end I've left stock. Its the original borg warner 9bolt with posi traction and 2.77 gears. I plan to keep this rear end in the car. The rear end has 194,000 miles on it just like the body of the car. I'm also considering changing the gears to 3.27 gears. How much do you you guys think this should cost. Are their other shops that would be able to do this kind of work?

9 bolt parts are hard to come by in new condition. You'll need a 3 series carrier, the ring gear, and you'll prolly want to go through and replace the bearings, seals, and add a rear end girdle while it's apart. Honestly I just found a low miles 3.27 rearend at a junk yard, and cleaned it up. Was cheaper than building my 2.77 rearend

Will is right! Just rebuilt mine and upped the gears to a 3.27 also. Prob much cheaper to buy a used one and clean it up. Feels much better than that 2.77.

Re: The Rear End Shops
Yeah thats what I am thinking of doing. I'll start seeing if I can find one. I went on 9bolt.com and they want a lot of money for parts.

Since I am going to deal with the rear end I think I will see if I can upgrade to the '89 style PBR brakes too. Might as well since I will have the rear end out.

Where should I start looking for a good used rear with 3.27 gears? I looked on Hawks Thirdgen and they want $550 for a used stock rear with no aftermarket upgrades. Thats way too much. I'll start looking around at junk yards and Craigslist see what I can find.

Re: The Rear End Shops
Check here on the classifieds.. mostly on part outs, or your local boneyards can be very lucrative also. I got my 3 series carrier from a junkyard, and then nouht the gears I wanted. There was too much damage to that axle or I would have just snatched the whole thing.

Re: The Rear End Shops
Thanks. I'll keep looking online and on ebay. Hawks wanted way too much money for just a stock rear that wasn't even rebuilt. I looked at 9bolt.com to. They have the parts that you can use to rebuilt the rear end but I think they want too much for the parts.

Do you guys think pick and pull in stockton or modesto would have one? When I find one I can add the '89 up PBR brakes and a differential cover to while I am at it. That way things will be upgraded all in one shot.

Re: The Rear End Shops
I have seen plenty of 9 builts out there. but i havnt looked in a long time.

you commited to keeping the 9 bolt? 10 bolts are common have more aftermarket support and can survive a 383 stroker blown motor in an automatic car going 10.9x in the 1/4 mile...jus sayin...lol

Re: The Rear End Shops
I've met the owner of the 'Rear End Shops' here in North California; He constantly works his butt off day after day and is a great guy! I don't know how many of them he owns.
I had the Santa Rosa shop rebuild mine and change out the gears to the 3.27. When the posi cones ate themselves a few months later, even though it wasn't a part normally covered in the warrenty, he took my IROC in and fixed in no charge.

Now shops like that are only as good as their employees; no owner works on the rear ends themselves unless it's an emergency, so that's where you've got to ask the right questions about who's going to actually lay the hands of healing on your vehicle. Nitro
