PLEASE HELP!!!
If anybody remembers or cares, I'm having trouble with the 'vert.
I screwed around with the car for 2 weeks. Checking, testing, etc. Can't find anything wrong other than the car won't go into close loop and the O2 sensor keeps showing "not ready". New O2 sensor and CTS, same stuff. So, I threw in the towel and took it to the "best" place around, according to most people around here. His diagnosis: injectors.
Me: "Injectors? Why would that keep the car from going into closed loop?"
Him: "The computer keeps re - setting itself."
So, in other words, this clown knows as little or, if possible, less than I do about this stuff. Plus, the way he phrased it, it was like this is just the first step and there may be more wrong with it. He also suggested that we change the O2 sensor! I could start hanging parts off it and maybe get lucky and solve the problem just as well as he could and for a LOT less money. As a side note, I ohmed the injectors and they all matched, hot and cold, plus held 40 PSI for at least 30 minutes after the engine/key was shut off. Oh! BTW, he only wants $1100 to replace all 8 injectors with REBUILTS!!!!
So, if anybody has a suggestion for a shop in the far southwestern suburbs, someone you can trust and that REALLY knows their stuff, I would truly appreciate a heads up about them. The closer to Braidwood/Braceville as possible, the better because if I have to drive more than 3-5 miles, I won't make it. If it's farther, but, someone can vouch for their ability/expertise, I'll swallow hard and call the tow truck. I'm desperately trying to avoid my last ditch attempt of going to the nearest Pontiac dealer.
TIA

why not just take it to the dealer for an oil change and "mention" that it has been running rough, usually they'll do a diagnosis on it thinking it'll get them the business, but you just pay for the oil change and pick it up instead. then you know what they said the problem was. Worst care scenario they hit you with the fee for diagnostic time, which is around $50 typically.

Actually if the injectors are bad enough they could cause a scenario as described.
Ohm them out anything below 12 ohm is junk and 17 ohm should be correct for stockers. they should all be fairly equal. This only checks the electrical side and not the mechanical side. They basically overheat the driver and shut it down it cools back off and runs again. May or may not shut the car down, but stumble when it occurs.(check them yourself)
ECM needs:
time limit
02 oscillations
proper temp
to achieve closed loop.
Edit: give us all the info you can, does it happen when the car is hot or cold? what does the scanner indicate etc?
Also very common on our cars to lose 02 sensor leads and the grounds on the back of the pass side cyl. head MUST be tight or you will have massive driveability issues.
