Chop liver checking in

Just kidding. Well, the Z28 is being parted since the body is no longer of any value. My father in law has been wanting to do a 305 swap in his S10 ever since I've known him, so he get's his wish and the car lives on in that fashion.

Might have my hands on a GTA next summer, to fill a spot in my new garage when I most likely move to La Porte.

Anyways, as mentioned many times before, my wife is a little on the coo-koo side about the internet and talking to people, I've sat next to her with a lap top on several occasions and shown her, "look, we're talking about cars here!" but she still thinks there' ssome kind of embedded sexual predator thing going so I dunno.

So, with trying to get a gutted house back together and on the market, job position facing being phaised out at any time from 1/1 to 4/1 and now moving from IL to In, and other things here and there, my plate is full.

dylan,
all people on the internet are a "little" weird. But if you've ever walked through a wal-mart the same could be said for that store as well.

what Paul are you talking about? I might not post that often but I browse the board everyday. I usually spend a lot of time looking for parts. I guess I still feel that I don't know that many of you senior members very well.

Well even if Jeremy wasn't looking for me I am still alive. lol. I might as well post because I haven;t done so in awhile. I was just busy with school and whatnot, but I browsed the boards every so often only making a few comments here and there. I would have gone to that Christmas party, but I had papers to write and whatnot- oh the joys of college. Anyway, I am off for like a month now, but I will be working at my old job.
As far as my thirdgen is concerned, my brakes were making a noise, which I new were messed up for awhile, but I guess BOTH caliper bolts fell out and somehow the caliper managed to stay on. I heard a grinding noise and it was the caliper grinding on the inside of wheel because when I took a look at it today, there were a couple of scratch marks. I stripped the freakin threads in the spindle so I had improvised, but I never thought both bolts would go. Anyway, I am on the search for a replacement passenger side spindle assembly so if anyone has one for laying around let me know! I will make an offer or whatever, otherwise I will just try a Helicoil. Other than the brake thing, my tranny has a slow leak due to the fact I haven't been able to keep up on my car as much at school because I have to park far away from my dorm. Other than that it has been good just dirty :P. I can't wait to clay bar my car in the spring and give it a fresh coat of wax. I would really like to get my new shocks and struts so I can finally get the front end aligned. Anyway, that is what I have been up to just about. Sorry for the long post, but it;s been awhile so I had to make up.

P.S. When is the next Hooters thing or whatever? I missed everything because of school.

P.P.S. I went over this hill at a good amount of speed with my car and got a little air time and let me tell you it was quite interesting.

Yeah, mine tried getting me this morning when she found out the cell phone(s) bill was $530 She starts screaming, "who have you been calling!", um, noone (my 10 call log dates back to early October for crying out loud).

So, justice was served when I looked up the account status today which showed my normal $40 bill, and her excessive balance for being 550 + min. over her plan

I'd really love to get to one of the gatherings, especially when I move to Indy, since I'll be bored to tears

But trying to sneak time, and money, whee, that's always fun. As the sign at my desk reads: "Driver carries NO cash, he's married".

Still Alive
Hey Jeremy (and everyone):

I'm still alive. I haven't been around because I've been kinda distancing myself from all things F-body since my Firebird debacle this year. Here's the story:

After not completing the car by thirdgenfest (again), I kept working on it every weeknight and weekend and finally decided I was missing out on time with my family, so I dropped the car off at Area One Motorsports to have it finished.

All that was left was hooking up the nitrous, building a radiator mount & FPR mount, wiring the electric fans, hooking up the gauges, bleeding the brakes and building the exhaust. I also had a handful of little things like installing the battery cables and plug wires & stuff that would probably take a few hours total.

Area one is an NX dealer and has an in-house dyno, so they could tune the car on horsepower and tune it on nitrous so it would be track-ready when I got it back. That was the plan anyway.

I actually stopped in to Area One in mid-June, but was told that they couldn’t get the car in the shop until Monday, July 3rd. Unfortunately, I found out that “get the car in the shop” and “actually work on it” were two different things. When I stopped by the following Friday to check progress, my car was parked on the gravel lot behind their shop, covered in gravel dust, untouched. They just pushed-it out of the shop every morning and back in at night. I was told that they would start on my car “as soon as the Corvette is done”. When I asked when that would be, they said “about a week if things go well.” I flipped out on the guy and went home & told the wife I was bringing it home to finish myself. She didn’t want me working on the car every weeknight and weekend, so there it stayed.

My first inkling that things weren’t going to go smoothly is when their technician told me in person that the local dragstrip won’t allow me to run the nitrous because I wasn’t using braided steel nitrous line. My NX kit came with the race hose upgrade. Instead of typical braided steel line, it has a braided hose with a black plastic coating over it. No one at the shop had ever seen NX race hose before (and they’re an NX dealer). He insisted that the hose wouldn’t be legal at the strip. He also insisted that my 130GPH mechanical fuel pump wasn’t sufficient. I pointed out that the NX install instructions indicate that the pump must be a min of 110GPH and mine is 130GPH. He still insisted it wasn’t enough.

Speaking of fuel pumps, the housing on my brand new Holley 130GPH pump was broken when they (over) torqued the fuel hose fitting. It was replaced with a Carter 170GPH pump, which I was charged for. They broke my fuel pump and charged me to replace it.

The day before I picked-it up, I asked if it had been on the dyno yet (like I requested). I was told “no, we’re not going to do that.” Let me clarify: They have a dyno. They sell dyno time and tuning. But they’re not going to dyno it even though that’s what I want. At this point, I just wanted the car back. I’d take it elsewhere to have it dyno’d.

September 9 is the day I got it back. Over 2 months for just over one week’s worth of labor hours invested. Summer is over and all the local towns that have cruise nights have ended them already. The last cruise night of the season was on Sept 9th, the day I got the car back, so I had to go. The Morris cruise night is awesome, with a typical turnout of 500-700 cars. I made it there without incident. Getting home that night was the problem. I was just about to leave and my brother’s friend yelled “purge the nitrous”. So I activated the nitrous switch, hit the purge button… and the car died. It wouldn’t restart. After fumbling around without a flashlight for 15 mins, I finally got one and we figured it had to be a blown fuse because the car just stopped dead. Apparently, the MSD box and the nitrous share the same fuse—and the nitrous purge is wired incorrectly. Of course, if it would’ve been tested on the dyno at their shop, this wouldn’t have happened. It was after 10pm, everyone else had left, and we can’t get the car going. We replaced a blown fuse but the car won’t start. Apparently, their wiring skills leave a little to be desired, as the car started after we jiggled their wiring and turned the key at the same time. I’ve got to go through all the wiring that I thought was “professionally” done. On the ride home in the dark, the backlight on my monster tach (which they wired) would intermittently turn on and off. What a butcher job. I hate re-doing work that I paid for.

First off, everyone tells me to take the car back to Area One. None of my cars will ever see the inside of that place again. I don't care if they'd fix it "under warranty." I get pissed off thinking about it.

The car sat for a couple weeks (because I was aggrevated and didn't want to see it). When I finally decided to try and start it, it flooded out in a big, bad way. I pulled the air cleaner off and gas poured out of the filter. I assumed that the float was stuck in the carb, but my brother pointed out that the fuel solenoid for the nitrous could be stuck on. This got me to thinking that they probably mis-wired that too. I didn't even troubleshoot it, I just closed the garage door and it's sat for the last 3 months.

The car is so close to being done, it's not even funny. I'm planning on working on it after Christmas when there's nothing going on in Jan/Feb. I just upped the insurance to $20K (which sadly is less than I have in it) and I'm secretly hoping my garage gets hit by lightning and burns to the ground before I put any more time or money into it.

Sorry for eating up 5 Megs of webspace with this reply, but now you know what was going on. -- Kevin

Kevin,
doesn't sound like fun at all, probably why I won't let any shops touch my camaro without me looking over them the whole time. I know you weren't too happy with the work that jeff and I did...or at least you kinda seemed upset that day, but if you need help rewiring the tach or nitrous, I've done tons of them by now to help you out.

Steve (and Jeff) - Sorry if I gave you guys the impression that I wasn't happy with your work. I remember not liking our options for mounting the fuel press regulator and giant -8 fuel filter (since we didn't have supplies to relocate them and build a nice bracket). That wasn't your fault. The one thing Area One did that I really liked was the custom aluminum mount they built for the FPR and filter. You can see it in the engine shot on my Cardomain page.

Yes I am alive. I too have distanced myself from all things thirdgen related as I waited for my '92 to be painted.

$2400.00 but it should get me in the front row center at thirdgen '07 finally. The car is done and I will pick it up this week, probably by Wed. 1/3

The '86 got the body work done and I had been driving it as a daily driver. I let my oldest son take it to work and some how the next day I had an oil leak that turned into a seiged engine. UGH. Happy Thanksgiving.

Denny is dropping an engine off for the '86 so I have been reduced to driving other cars like my sons '06 Mustang (ugh...it's no Camaro) and trying not to think about my 3rd gens. Coming to the site was too painful.

Sorry I missed the gathering for you Jeremy. Have fun in school. Texas is real hot and there has to be some rust free cars there.

Stay in touch!

Andre'
