I've just bought some headers off ebay. I took a bit of a gamble on them but they were going cheap so I thought f**** it and went for it.

It looks to me they are short tubes. You think they will be ok for my GTA?
I've got cats on at the moment and a flowmaster cat back system. I was hoping to whip off the cats and fit some 3" pipework from the headers to the flowmaster muffler. What do you guys think? What work is needed? What do I do with the oxygen sensor and it's wiring (it looks like there is a boss for it perhaps) but do I need it?
Many thanks,
Karl

Do you know what brand the headers are? Are they specific for 3rd gens? I looks like they should have come with a y-pipe to tie into the factory system. Since your car only has a 2.5" catback you might need to take it to a good exhaust shop and have them bend up a y-pipe and 3" pipe back to the muffler. If you can find out who made the headers you might be able to contact them and see if you can order a y-pipe from them. As far as the o2 sensor goes, it should mount in the header collector on the drivers side. From those picks it looks like it has a bung on one of the primaries, you'd probably want to relocate that. Gimme a call or stop by the shop if ya want and we can see what we can come up with. I'm not an exhaust guy per se but I know a lot of people lol. OH BTW I have some A/C info for ya too. I found some R12

The guy said he didn't know what brand they were.
I was hoping one of you guys would be able to help
They are specific for third gen apparently.
The is a boss on one manifold which I presume is for the O2 sensor. I think it needs drilling/tapping though.
I need to save up some pennies and run the car down to an exhaust shop. Any reccomendations with that one?
Is it worth getting them coated before I do so? I here you can get fancy ceramic coat which reduces under hood temps. Roughly how much is it to have that done?
With regards to the A/C I think I'm going to wait until I get my first paycheck as 've been spending bits here and there to tidy the GTA up. I'll show you when I bring her in next.

those look like the flowtech cheapies, not sure if they'd be worth putting on. My recommendation would be to resell them and purchase some headmann shorties along with the matching y-pipe that is made for these cars. www.summitracing.com sells them. Those headers also look really white like the car was run too rich for a while which would make them weaker and that color. Hit them with some flat black charcoal paint and resell would probably be the best bet. Headmann locates the O2 sensor near the collector not on a single tube like that one is setup.

Yeah I agree with Steve you'd probably be better off reselling those and picking up a good set with y-pipe from Summit or wherever. By the time you get a y-pipe and have the exhaust fabbed up to match you'll spend as much as buying a new set plus you'll save a ton of time. If you find a style you like let me know and Ill see what i can do, I have a buddy who has an account with a local speed parts warehouse. The ceramic coating is nice but it adds quite a bit to the price. The headers should last a lot longer and look nicer with it though.
Seriously? Aww man there is me thinking I'd picked up a steal. Damn.
I don't think they have been used. The guy said they are new, never fitted. The white is probably paint. I really can't see how they could get that colour in use.
Are you sure it would be cheaper for me to buy a new set?
Why do you think they look like the cheap set? The pipework looks pretty decent to me. I can see your point about the o2 sensor pick up point.

when you get them in the mail stop by and let me see them and I can tell you right away. Typically brand new they are around $200 or so for the headers and y-pipe plus $12 shipping from summit for the matched set. Now that you don't have a y-pipe an exhaust shop will probably charge $200 just for the y-pipe since they need to mark it up a bit, plus driving it to the exhaust shop on open shorty headers would be an experience in itself.

I drove that white car around for 2 days with open shorties before I had the Y-pipe made. Loud as hell, but it felt a lot more powerful Originally Posted by xpndbl3

kins: Make sure you have an exhaust shop that LIKES doing custom work do it. The average exhaust shop will do a **** job and charge you a lot because they really don't want to do the work. Most of them just want to clamp pieces of pipe together from a kit, or at least that's my experiences.
With shipping I paid $66 for them!
If I know what brand they are I can afford to have them sit in my garage until a Y-pipe turns up on ebay. It might take a while though
. I see your point about getting a brand new pair for only $200 though. Well i'll wait until they come and I can be deciding. In thenmean time keep your eyes pealed for a Y-pipe. ha ha

Another option is to call Flowtech and tell them that your original y-pipe rotted through and you need a new one. I did that with Edelbrock on my IROC and they sent me a new y-pipe for free, but mine actually was rotted. I dont know if Flowtech will do the same but maybe they will give you a deal on a new one. Good luck

flowtech y-pipes are junk as well. This is like throwing money into a $500 rust bucket then spending 50k on it. If you get them and I can verify they are flowtech, you'd be better off selling them and buying another brand. cough cough headmann. Edelbrock is junk compared to headmann as it necks down to 2.5" in the collectors.
