In 50 words or less? Ha! Buy a rulebook. Drag racing is explained very thoroughly in the first few pages.
There are many types of drag racing. 90% of all drag racing is ET bracket racing. There are also class index racing such as SuperComp, SuperGas and SuperStreet. Comp Eliminator is another type of drag racing. Stock Eliminator is usually a bracket race with strict limitations on the vehicles. Pro class racing (Top fuel, Funny car etc) is another type of drag racing.
Sorry I'm not going to explain how each of those types of drag racing is done. They're all different and are each unique ways of racing.
Getting into IHRA they have they're own type of classes.

teh basic version woudl be that heads up is all down to who gets to the end of the track first. both cars are told to go at teh same time and whoever gets to theother end wins.
in bracket racing cars of different speeds are told when to go on a handicapped start bassed on a time that is predicted by the driver. when the cars get to teh other end of the track teh idea is to beat teh othe rcar across teh finish line with otu taking less time than predicted.
hope tha thelps
