About those G-Tech Pro tools?...

Ok first of all where do u guys usually work those, i mean u just find a road u like and slam of the gas and go? What i'm confused is do u have to push a button or something to tell the thing to start counting, or maybe just by pushing the gas, the g-force of like gravity or something will automatically sense it to start counting your 1/4 times.

And how about stopping it, do u have to know how far a 1/4 mile is to stop, or will the gadget stop after it some how senses that u have traveled a 1/4 mile and thus gives u the time?

Just curious, cause i'm thinking of getting one..thanks.

You push a button to get the G-tech ready to go. Then when you acclerate it automatically starts timing. It knows when you have been a 1/4 mile based on acceleration and time. It automatically stops and flashes your 1/4 mile time and speed when you are done. It works pretty well, mine was within .2 sec of my times at the track but the mph was about 5 mph high. The difference in mph is because the g-tech tells you your mph at the end of the 1/4 mile while the track uses timers that average your mph over the last few feet of the track.

I had the chance to play with one for awhile and the readings were all over the place, then I went to the track and man was I happy, G-tech said 16.8 Time slip said 14.8 I've heard if you accelerate too quickly it throws the interia thing-a-ma-jig outta whack.

The accelerometer in the G-Tech pro is good for up to 1.3g's of force. That's a whole lot more then a 14.8 quarter mile is going to generate. That's more then an 11-12 second quarter mile. If you were getting inconsistent and unreliable results, it was either a bad unit or operator error. I've been using mine for over a year now and it has always been very consistent. It's even very consistent in how much different it is from real track times.

If you've got the cash as well, you may want to wait till October and buy the G-tech pro competition unit. It's $250 but it adds a lot of really nice features that make it more accurate as well as easier to use. With 4 accelerometers to cover all axis of movement, it's not as critical it be positioned precisely right. It's also got a much nicer display, as well as the ability to upload results directly to a PC (which I think is more of a wow that's cool feature then a Hey, I really need to be able to do that.).
