700R4 and shifting....

what is the fastest? OD, D or manually shifting? w/ the two 3rd gens ive owned, it seems it pulls the best in OD. It will always get rubber going into 2nd, thats not always true w/ D or manually shifting. I guess the only way to find out is to run a the track and try out all 3 ways.

I'd say anything but OD... OD is just telling your car to go into fourth gear. OD is not a speed gear. I'd just try it manually shifting and try it in D and see what you can have better, consistent times with.

My experience with the "mostly stock" part was letting it shift itself was more reliable than any other method. D vs OD doesn't make a lick of difference.

When you put in that wild cam with the heads and exhaust to back it up, then manually shifting would be beneficial. However, I know plenty of racers who adjust the govenor springs/weights to bring the shift point where they want it and let the tranny do the shifting.
