getting ready for big power
getting ready for big power
Well i am now ready to start making modifications to my car to get ready for a new bigger engine.... the motor will range from 400 to 500 HP... the motor won't be going in till the end of the summer or next winter... but over the summer I want to make suspention and other modifications. I want to make sure i don't just sit there and burn out.. So what i am asking is ..what kind of mods should i do to my car to make sure i am getting power to the ground... from most important to least important.. also anything else i should know about going from no power to a lot of power... thanks

start by getting all aftermarket rear suspension parts.....
aftermarket torque arm,
lower control arms,
panhard rod,
sway bar links
sway bar etc
and get poly or solid bushings for everything.
disconnect your front sway bar at the track,
replace springs and shocks.....get adjustable shocks if you can.
get some slicks
that should be a good start

OK I will fan the fire on this one. I have a 91 Formula that was putting out around 450 at the crank and pulling 1.6 60' times.
The key to makeing the power stick is in the suspension. Aftermarket LCAs are a good start. I personally run edelbrock because when I got them Spohn wasn't around yet. Now that he is, I would recommend his. Also the Panhard rod he sells is a quality piece.
Second if frame connectors for that type of power. I run Jegster bolt ins that were welded after I installed them.
I ran stock 30,000 mile ws6 springs the last time I had the car to the track. This season I have gone with Eibach drag springs.
To make the weight transfer, I use Lakewood 70/30 struts up front and 50/50 shocks in the rear. I run Air bags on both sides of the car, driver 7lbs, passenger 20 lbs.
I also removed the front sway bar for drag racing, if this is going to be a street car, i recommend leaving it in.
Lastly, and aftermarket Torque arm assmebly is in order. This way you can change the pinion angle. Spohn's is nice because you can get the driveshaft loop built into it. I am not dissing other company's products, its just that I have used a lot of Spohn's parts with good luck thus far.
I haven't had any experience with the LCA relocation brackets yet...I am having them installed next week.
If i left anything else out, feel free to e-mail and I will try to help as much as I can.

well there is a new development... and here it is..
*5.7 L. VORTEC ENGINE B&M blower, hydraulic roller cam, ported and polished Vortec heads, 450 HP with Dyno sheets, engine hardly used. Great for street rods, boats, etc. Installation available. Can be started to test. Reduced to $4,500. Will consider interesting trades.*
I might get this then do suspention... and also what do you guys think of this engine... is it priced right... it comes with everything headers dist..everything
