First 1/4 mile run w/Z28-- help me analyze the results
Hey people- first time at the strip this afternoon and got some dissappointing numbers, but definitely a starting point- My camera sucks so i'll just type in all the vital information-
What can be done to better these times-
What is considered a good time for a stock Z28 with 2.73s?
I'd like to break into the 15s with my car the way it is- how can I do it?

Start with some good tires or some slicks. The poor 60' times are killing your ET. You should be able to get them down to at least low 2.x. Once the 60' times get better, the ET will also.
It's possible that the track is too slippery also. Find out what other racers were doing at the same time. A regular racer with a real race car would know if the traction was good or not.

when i race-- i drop the clutch at about 3 grand and the car almost dies-- its like the clutch is slipping real bad- i have to hold the clutch in for like the first 2 or 3 seconds, otherwise i'll almost stall- could that be a sign of a bad throwout bearing or something? its a Centerforce Dual Friction clutch so i dont know what the problem is.
The track seemed ok because some people were gettings low 2's and some 1.8, 1.6s even saw a 1.5:hail:
Is 16.4 a time to be expected at my altitude and stock setup?

well good tires is a must, i would think with decent street tires and the stock z28 suspension you should be able to pull 2.1 or at least 2.2 60 foots..
practice helps alot also, i have an automatic, i would guess its alittle harder when launching with a clutch.

That mph should give you high 15's. Maybe a very low 16. You have the hp to run 15's from the mph but don't have the traction.
My 454SS truck on a bad day usually runs 15.7's at 87 mph. At 15.0 it was almost 90 mph.

sounds like you need a good tuneup, your mph seems pretty low, next time out, def. work on your 60' and ice your intake, when was the last time the plugs/wires/cap/rotor etc were changed? I dunno that just seems like a low mph for a 91z..when my motor was bone stock i was trapping 88-89

thanks for the replies-- you guys rock- i'm gonna be doing a tune-up in the next couple of days-
plugs
wires
cap
rotor
fuel filter
PCV valve
ignition coil
how do i check the idle air control sensor and the throttle position sensor?
someone also recommended checking the TPS voltage? how do i do that and what should it be?

That track must have been really slippery or something... My car gives me consistent 1.9x 60ft times... and i also have a 91 Z28 with stock suspension and street tires... although i do have the l98 with the auto so maybe you just need some more practice on te launch... and I thought te 91's with the 305tpi/5 speed got the 3.42's????

i tried dropping at various rpms everything from 1200-5000
i tried riding the clutch out, and i tried just letting it go, but when i do that, it wants to stall..
the clutch was bought from a guy on here who said it had like 5000 miles on it.
