New launch pad will it be good or bad
New launch pad will it be good or bad
Next week will be the first time on a new launch pad and will the traction be good or bad. Also one other question is a "shot blasted" launch pad good on the first day of racing or will it be a bad day for traction. My car has traction problems it will spin the tires for about the first 40ft.
This was from the tracks web site
"Construction began last week on lengthening the concrete launch pad from 100 feet to 330 feet. In addition, the concrete will be “shot blasted” to improve traction. Construction crews have also excavated the old parking lot asphalt that made up the remainder of the quarter-mile strip. This will be replaced with new asphalt 100 feet past the quarter-mile finish line."

Any launch pad that is new, or has;nt been used for a period of time, is not gonna be the best. It needs to have rubber laid down, plain and simple for the best hook.
Stephen 87 IROC what do you think.
This track is for street legal only and gets very little rubber down with all the cars, trucks, motorhomes and semi trucks that run street tires.
My best 60 ft was at this track a 1.63 and was thinking that a shot blasted track for the first week will have better bite than normal?

I've never experianced a track with a shot blasted launch pad.
The best track is one that has as little asphalt as possible during the entire 1/4 mile and as much concrete as possible. Concrete isn't affected by heat and cold as much as asphalt is. Sun baked asphalt is very slippery.
As for traction, everyone thinks that there should be a layer of rubber on the track. Only if the rubber is hot (burnout type) will it be sticky. A properly prepared track will have the old rubber removed. This requires using propane powered tiger torches and large scrapers (big putty knifes on broom handles) to remove all the old rubber. Once you're down to concrete, a layer of VHT traction compound is applied.
Street tires don't benefit much from traction compound. The tire rubber is too hard to get any traction.
