in the 8s?
i'm probably going to be building a 327 for my 84 z28. it will have about 12-13:1 compression, 041 or 441 heads, solid flat tappet cam in the 240-250 duration at .050 range, single plane intake, and short headers to start with but i'l go to something like 1 3/4" long tubes eventualy.
it will probably have something like 4.10 gears, and a built up th350 with a pretty high stall.
if it hooks up do you think i'l get something like low 8s in the 1/8th?
i'm looking to have a pretty mean engine on a budget and i'm not worried about streetability and i know it will need race gas. thanks

All that for low 8s??? Seems like a lot, my street car with stock heads (valve job) stock cam, and bolt ons ran 8.027 and got well over 22 mpg on the way home! I would think that motor should run deep into the 7s!

You should be able to build an inexpensive, pump gas 350 to meet your goals easily. I'd use Vortec heads to start, there are a few people here that run low 12s with a cookie cutter 350 with Vortec heads and a decent cam, but still very streetable.

Best so far in the 1/8th is in the 7.8X's on radials.

the reason im building a 327 is that i already have all the parts(forged crank, domed forged pistons, ect.).
eventualy i want to get some good aftermarket heads over 200cc for a good high reving engine.
anyway, i don't think its worth it to me to get vortec heads since there not that much better and made for low RPM use if i'm going to build it to run in the 3000-7500 range.

so, what if i had the 327 built to about 13:1 compression, a cam with 240-250 duration, and something like dart pro 1 230cc heads. do you think i would be in the low 7s maybe?
i'm just trying to decide what to build, i have a 80 TA with a 455 in it which you can't do as much for as cheap as a SBC and i just took it to the track today and ran an 8.90 at 78 mph. i'm not diving into that engine and i think i could get into the low 8s with intake, trans, and exhaust stuff.
the only problem is that with the 84 i would like to get a trailer so i don't have to drive it 60 miles to the track every week.

With the 327 and that kind of compression I personally would opt for a higher duration cam. Not enough cubes to really benefit from the smaller duration coming outta the hole. The 327 are notorious for making great hp being spun, so get a nice 45-5000 stall and at least a 250/260 @.050 but a better soulution would be a 270/280 @ .050
