Another rained out race

The 2004 race season so far sucks.

Saturday night my first pass down the track was scary. As soo as I shifted to second gear the car was all over the track. I peddled twice before finally hooking up. Only managed a 11.8 at 120 mph. Oil pressure was lower than normal after the run so I called it a night and took the car home to check it out. I didn't want to taost another engine.

Pulling the oil filter off and cutting it open reveiled nothing. If there's something wrong inside the engine, it isn't showing up in the oil filter yet. I ran out and got some more oil and a filter and changed the oil. Instead of taking the car back to the track that night I just waited until Sunday morning. Weather conditions were great Saturday night and were expected to be even better on Sunday.

Very early Sunday morning it rained. When I got up the roads were still wet. Still hopeful of some racing I loaded the car up and headed for the track. I'm glad the car sat in the garage instead of in the rain overnight at the track.

Getting to the track there was a slight drizzel. By 11:30am they couldn't get the track dry and the cool temperatures woudn't let the track build up any heat. It was still overcast and parts of the city were seeing pockets of rain. They called the race for rain instead of sitting around all day on the hopes that it might clear up and the conditions didn't look promising.

Another race rained out however they're going to extend the race season and those of us who showed up today will get a chance at a make up race. That is providing we don't get snowed out at the end of September (seen it happen before).

Conditions were so nice that I was expecting rain delays but still wanted to get on track today. Humidity was really high but temperature was only 13c by noon and the barometric pressure was the highest it's been all year on a race weekend. At 11:30 am the density altitude was only 3800 feet which for here is fantastic air. Theoretically if I could have hooked up, the car would have run low 10's!

Big race next weekend. We're on track again Friday night then all day Saturday and all day Sunday. Sunday race has $1000 to win.

We got rained on for about 30 minutes Friday (had some drops on the windshield at the finish line for my first time trial, got back to the pits and stuffed everything back in the car just before it started to pour). As quickly as it moved in it moved out, then it took them about an hour to get the track ready again.

Saturday they had to stop several times for light sprinkles, but the track was warm enough that they didn't have to do any drying. I didn't stick around for the end after going out the 2nd round, but saw they were still running after 6 p.m. when a "normal" Saturday with no rain and limted breakage will finish eliminations by 5 p.m.

The area is officially in a drought. We've has as many rain-outs this year as we did during El Nino.
