Final qualifying points races for the Bandimere team were today. I was in two different ET classes, went into the day tied for 6th place in the class from which they take 6 (Run Tuff), and 9th place in the class from which they take 3 (Street ET). I needed to go some rounds and hope some in front of me didn't in Run Tuff, but was too far behind in Street to have much hope of qualifying in it.
Run Tuff was run first. And I lost the first round.
However...
Two of the people ahead of me didn't want to go to the finals. The people behind me didn't do well enough to bump me back too far. So, I made it in anyway.
In other news:
In Street I determined the season champion. The guy in first place went out in the first round (as did 4 & 5) and the guy in 2nd won, taking over first place. I got a red-light win. The guy now in first went out in the second round, and I happened to line up with the guy in 3rd in the second round - and took him out. Had he won that round against me, he would have gone into first place.
I ended up going 5 rounds (quarterfinals), and moved from 9th to 6th in the Street class season points.
In two weeks, look out Topeka, here we come!

Awesome....funny how things work out like that
Must've been a real tight race for points when it comes down to 1 race and that many place changes
Good luck at Nat.

It's the way it's gone for me the past 3 years. In 2002, I was 4th in Street and needed to win to qualify, a non-factor in Run Tuff (missed the first 3 races); went out early in Street and went rounds in Run Tuff. Ended up 6th in Street but 3 of those ahead of me didn't want to go. Last year, I was 5th in Run Tuff and a non-factor in Street (missed 2 races due to travel), went out 1st round of Run Tuff but went rounds in Street, but only fell back one place in Run Tuff and still qualified (the Finals were here last year).Originally posted by IHI

I've got some logistics to work out (such as a business meeting in Buffalo, NY, they want me to attend on the 15th - the Finals start the 16th), and a trailer so I don't have to drive the car there (3.73 gears, 3500 stall, and no overdrive/lock-up aren't a good 560 mile interstate combo).

The guy who went in in 2nd place, and ended up in 1st, had been in first all year until the last race, when he fell behind by one point (100 points for tech card, 101 points for each win, one additional point for quarter- & semi-finals, runner-up & winner). 3rd place was only one round behind them. I was 10 rounds behind the leaders, 6 behind #4.Originally posted by IHI

Oh, beating that 3rd place guy made us even. He took me out in the quarterfinals earlier this year, went on to the finals where he lost to #1. I was in 3rd after that race behind those two, but had a poor late-summer and fell way back.
