Just Finished 385

Just finished building my 385. I'm putting it in my 1983 Sport Coupe. Not going to be heading to the track until spring, but I want to know what you guys think I will be running. Here's some details: Bore - 4.04", Stroke - 3.75", 10.2:1 compression, Mostly stock vortec heads (just modified the valvetrain a little so I could run a nice cam.), Comp cams HR282 (hydraulic roller .510 intake, .520 exhaust duration at . 050 is 230 and 236 respectively), stamped steel rockers (1.5), performer RPM air gap, demon 650 vs, hedman shortys to 2.5" y-pipe with 3" catback and a 40 series flowmaster, Stock 700r4, stock open rearend with 3.08s (son of a . . .), BFG drag radials 275/50/15, the car weighs about 3300 lbs with me and gas. Did I forget anything? I am hoping to get some high 13s as it is now. Soon I will replace the weak 7.5 10-bolt with an 8.5 with 4.10 gears and a locker. I will be racing at Rocky Mountain raceway in Utah next spring. I think the elevation is around 3800. Any Ideas on what I can expect?

no power steering
and an electric fan too

sounds like a good setup, although i'd go with a 750 double pumper instead of that 650 VS. i regret purchasing my 750VS instead of a double pumper of same size. you also are going to want a much much bigger stall, probably in the 2800-3200 range for better launches as well. not even going to mention the bad gears just yet.

other than that sounds like a good start. i wish you luck.

Sounds like a lot of work. Are you modifying it yourself, having someone modify it, or buying one ready to install?

It will be alot of work, but I have seen it done before. And it is much more cost effective than puchasing a pre-fabbed 9-inch or 12-bolt from Strange or Moser. It should be pretty straight forward. My father will be doing most of the welding (he's good!) I'm sure I'll end up making some kind of a jig to get things straight, but that's what rodding is all about!

Should go well into the 12's with the right gear, converter and tires.
