Fun at the track

Well I finally made it out to the track last week and again this week. Last week sucked. My first run was 17.583@82.67MPH. The car literally died off the line (I had a 3.623 60' time). The rpm would not go up. I played with my mixture settings and got a bit better, I lost the time slip and can't remember, but it still hesitated. I played around some more and got a 16.224@91.07MPH. I figured it was my fuel pump starving my motor so I replaced that during the week. I went again yesterday and my first run out was 15.286@83.45MPH, I let off on the gas a 1000' mark because my buddy's girlfriend wanted a ride and if I brake 13.99 I can't take passengers. The next run I let my buddy drive and he got 16.002@89.19MPH. He said it died off the line again. I wanted to go for a third run, but the track got wet with dew and we had one of the outlaw class drivers smack the wall, moving the wall and killing the car and the night, she was alright, but the 60s GTO was done for. I will try to fix the problem with the hesitation for next season, street legals are over in Mission now,I think the carb isn't adjusted properly, or the timing is out (any other tips are welcome).

That 15.28 shows you have more left in the car, you just need to come back next season and try again. It's all about seat time and conditions. I live in the southeast US and in the mid summer with the temp in the 90's and high humidity I don't even go to the track, I get my best results (and fun) here in the spring/fall/winter when the track is open.

I ran a 14.37@96 with a bone stock longblock 305tpi 5 speed car with free mods and bolt ons in 60* temps last spring, but the best I could do a week ago at the same track was a 14.73. Between the temp being in the 80's and me being rusty with no practice, I wasn't able to do better.

Glad you had fun!

You need to get a Innovative LM-1. Takes alot of guesswork out of tuning.
