128 passes?

I was at the track lastnight and a guy was making 8.5x passes all night with his car spraying a 300 shot every pass. On his last pass there was a loud pop and he just coasted through the line at 10.5 @92mph. I was talking to him after and he said he got 128 1/4 mile passes out of that engine is that good?

without being freshened up, I'd imagine that would be 1 season, sometimes you get more sometimes less. Speed costs.

Well I found out he had the motor for 4 seasons and he freshens it up after each season. Each season he runs 150+ passes and last year he hit 200 passes. I take it the motor was built and maintained pretty well?

Re: 128 passes?

nitrous is rough on motors when spraying bigger shots, so it might have gone lean that pass, detonated, etc etc. You never know when they could blow.

Re: 128 passes?

Data logger says 0psi of oil pressure from staging he thinks the pump came off or the pickup came off. Either way his motor might be done for the year. His engine kicks over but runs like crap, couldnt he just pull the pan and replace what broke or could there be severe internal damages?

If he has 0 psi oil at full throttle on nitrous, even for just a second i bet he threw some bearings if not done more.

Re: 128 passes?

128 passes is not a lot.. thats only about one season.. my machinists customer was using a barely built 307 on 175 shot and that lasted 4 seasons.. it was an 82 Z28 runnin 10.7's.. it blew because he was stupid and wound out a 200 shot to the rev limiter..
