Get me 12's

Right now I am running 13.3 at 100. Im bored of being in the 13's, so I was looking for help to get me a 12.9.

I got an 89 iroc L98 with headers, catback, edelbrock intake and runners ported out, air foil, ported plenum, chip, 160 thermo, tb bypass, k&ns, gutten air boxes, afpr, marren injectors, msn ignition, and DR's.

remove weight....about 300lbs
add power....about 40-55 hp
work on gearing, torque converter, suspension, ect.

Re: Get me 12's

Whats the 60' like now? You can't possibly take full advantage of drag-radials with a stock coverter and gears. Spray would be easier, heads and or cam would be more satisfying, really does depend on what you want out of the car.

Re: Get me 12's

what are your 60' times? get them to 1.7xx.. probably need a converter and about a 3.73 gear.. also, like other have said, a cam and tune will get you where you want to be..

Exactly. The 60' alone would probably be enough for 12's, and changing converter and gears just feels good. 3.73's are fun!

Re: Get me 12's

3.73 gears + a stall converter in the 2800 rpm range. if you have shorty headers, switch over to long tubes

make sure the coolant temp is between 140 and 150 when you run, ice down the intake real good, keep the front tires pumped up to around 50psi and the rears at 20psi or so. when you launch, dont stall the converter to its maximum speed... keep the revs around 1200 and on the last amber, flash it

On a completely stock motor yes. He has some breathing mods, I'll bet it pulls ok up to around 5000rpm. (TPI guru's feel free to interject.) 3.73's would put him across the line at like 5000rpm @ 100mph. Changing to the HSR or other TPI like alternative would further capitalize on the gains.

depends... with a 100mph trap speed, 26" slicks, and 3.73 gears, hed be at roughly 4800rpms going thru the traps. considering you want to be just over peak power when you cross the finish line, 3.73 gears accomplish that exactly

FWIW the "old standard for TPI" 3.42s would put him at 4400rpms thru the traps with the same setup. if you want to wring every last bit of your E/T potential from a near stock TPI at the strip, 3.73s are the way to go
