We were painting up our old yard pickup truck in one of our sister companies colors. It was an early 90's Chev extended cab with pealing blue paint. He wanted it painted white with some SS stripes on the hood, roof and tailgate in his companies dark blue. Our painting isn't that great. I think I've seen vehicles painted with a roller that looked better but it is a yard truck and perfection was not important. Although the paint doesn't have a high gloss finish, it does look a lot better than the old blue paint. It'll look good from a far but far from good. The stripes actually came out better than planned even though they don't line up from the hood to the roof to the tailgate I didn't lay them out.

He was joking about having is company decals on my car and I said well maybe the smaller one on the rear. He replied "What do you want?" I said I could use some fuel and he said "Done. Go get 2 barrels when you need them and charge them to his account".

He's a fellow racer but doesn't do brackets. He has an 8 second, heavily NOS fed Nova (flat black of course). He also figures my car will get a 9.2 time slip this year with the toilets.

This is also the co-owner who has a semi trailer car hauler with the 37 Chev race truck in it. We're going to do a bit of touring this race season although we'll take our cars and leave the truck at home.

So I'll have some real sponsor decals over the rear wheels this year. He said I could put the larger door decal that fits on the tractor doors on my back window instead of the sides but I don't like the look of sponsor decals on the rear window.

Re: Got a sponsor!
congrats every little bit counts, esspecially in these times of raising fuel prices...heck, i was buying 110 just 3 yrs ago for what 87 is today

i'm sponsoring my nephews jr dragster, told them i'd pay for all their entry fees this season, so they're pumped. They actually put together a really professional folder they sent out looking for sponsors, only one that responded was amzoil, and all they did was give him a preferred customer number for a discounted rate on oil...but at $10/qt any discount on that would help since they change it each weekend LOL!!

Good luck this season, and do him right so maybe he'll be inclined to offer again next year

Re: Got a sponsor!
From what I've seen at the track, the Juniors usually have no problems getting sponsors big and small.

I remember one back in the early 90's that got a big Penzoil sponsorship. The car was painted up just like Eddie Hill's top fuel car was at the time.

A couple of years ago one had a Hooters sponsorship and a couple of Hooters girls were in his pit every race. Nice deal that was.

Good or bad, he'll probably sponsor me again for as long as I work for the company. If not, I can easily pull the decals off and give the area a shot of flat black to touch up the paint.

Next year I'll need new tires. Another local I race against gets free tires every year for his car from his sponsor and he uses the larger 33x16 slicks. He changes them before they get worn out. My slicks are around $600 for a pair and I'd like to go with the tubeless radial versions next year which are in the $700-$800 range for the pair.

if i cant find a dragster, i have to tub this POS. going through a set of slicks monthly adds up very quickly, esspecially with todays shipping rates. big tires is where it's at for bracket racing...big tires and small engines

Re: Got a sponsor!
josh, still not swapping to stiff sidewall slicks? buy a set, they've done wonders for everyone i know with heavier "street" cars at the track. The sidewalls last a lot longer as well.

Hoosier does'nt make a stiff sidewall in my size, i'll never run tubes again and would'nt have M/T stuck in my you know what ever again either. so until i tub this junker, i'm stuck with eating a set of tires each month...or racing less LOL!!

Re: Got a sponsor!
Got my decals today. I'm not putting them on until I order the methanol

I run MT because they're available locally. I've also run Goodyear and Hoosier over the years in different sizes. I liked the Hoosier but found they wear out very quickly. The also hooked up the best. If I had a local supplier of Hoosier, I'd be running them. Closest Hoosier dealer is a 2-1/2 hour drive from here.

That's the nice thing about running 32x14 tires. All the manufacturers make them in that size. It's a common SuperStock size and everyone who sells slicks usually carries that size. I wouldn't mind trying a 32x15 but they would have to be special ordered.

Re: Got a sponsor!
I was picking up some parts from our main supplier today and the manager asked me if I had a minute, to come and see him in his office before I left. I thought, "Hey maybe he's going to sponsor my car?". Everyone at the store knows I have the race car and one of the mechanics there also races. All the parts girls there have "big" 4x4's

Yep. I got me another sponsor. He's providing me with some Lucas oil products. Nothing major. I got 3 liters/quarts of 75W90 synthetic gear oil for the diff and a bottle of engine oil stabilizer. There isn't a lot of other products I can use. He didn't have any decals for me to put on the car yet.

Out of all the oil additives on the market, the Lucas oil stabilizer is the only one that really works. I was using it in the past but when I was blowing up engines, I didn't think the extra cost was worth it since the oil didn't stay in my engine long enough. Even running alcohol, I only need to change my oil once a year now.

With the synthetic gear oil, now I have a reason to pull my pinion support and change the leaking o-ring. The leak isn't bad but I was too lazy to replace it.

I guess I'm going to have to put sponsor logos and links on my web page now.
