what do i need?
Look, im planning to race my iroc somewhere in the near future. It is a t-5 with stock ring and pinion( I think 3.08) mated to a 350 zz4 long block with COMPLETELY stock tpi manifoldother than 24lb injectors. I'm hoping to run high 13's and i will be satisfied...for now. I plan on putting in a line lock and ACCEl 3000 rev limiter. What else should i get and what do you think i will run. I'm running stock wheels and tires with radial t/a's because im afraid to blow out my rear and i dont have the cash for that. Being a high school student its also hard to find time when your paretns threaten to sell your car with bad grades. Please reply. Thanks guys.

Re: what do i need?
Check with your local track first before going, or others that have raced. Some require helmets depending on how fast you go, and some require helmets on every pass.
The basics are a battery hold down, and fuel lines ran either in stock locations, with as little non OEM rubber hose as possible.
And also keep in mind, something i heard long ago, "If you cant afford to bring your car home in a bucket, then don't it."
2 basic week points in your drivetrain, the T5 behind the 350, and the rear end. Hopefully you wont hurt either with out a sticky tire, but I have seen, and read many stories about those parts going with any real abuse.

#1: Keep your grades up. Sacrificing today's opportunities for a little fun is a recipe for long-term misery.
#2: The distraction of a car hobby is one of the top reasons for poor grades.
#3: Have a helmet. If you don't have one (NHRA requires Snell 98), most tracks have them available for rent.
Oh, in addition to battery hold-down (in stock location - cut-off switch required if battery moved), you need a radiator overflow tank (not a problem if the stock one is there), long pants, closed-toe shoes (no sandals, flip-flops, etc.).

oh trust me im an honors student and my report card just came in today. Anyway, is there anything i can do to strengthen my stock rear? i plan on getting a v6 4th gen to drive everyday and make the iroc my hot rod. Do those rear end support covers actually work?

There's a tech article linked from the thirdgen.org home page about beefing up the 10-bolt.
The support cover will help, but it's not a cure-all. I'm using one on all of my raced cars, but they also have aftermarket gears & axles.
