Need help diagnosing very slow ET!!

I just got back from the strip with the latest combo. No matter what i do to the car, it wont run quicker. In fact, the quickest it has run was when it was bone stock with a Hypertech chip - 14.19 @95MPH

Ok, now i have: 3300lbs ,fresh 355ci HSR w/flowtech shorty headers, Crane 2032 Compucam, flat top pistons (comp bump-up), deleted fluff (see sig), MSD & Mallory ignition stuff, 700R4 w/ Transgo Shift Kit, B&M shifter, LCRB's, and lots of other little stuff that combined may get me 5-10hp... and 2.77 gears w/lsd, stock convertor, and terrible PROM tune.

With this setup, i raced to a best of 14.5 @93mph.
Incredibly frustrating!

Is it mainly the combo of 2.77 gears and stock stall that are holding me back? Especially since ditching the lower-rpm-torque TPI system with these crap gears? I'm going through the traps at the top of 2nd gear for cryin' out loud....

Help, its killin' me.

if you increase hp and do nothing to help hook it (chassis and suspension), it's understandable that your et won't improve. what are you running for tires? a gear swap would help you a BUNCH.

Re: Need help diagnosing very slow ET!!

Your old combination was making power down where the low gears and factory stall put you. Now that you have completely changed the powerband of the motor you have to have the drivetrain matched so that you can opperate in the new powerband.

If you are now making power in the 2600 to 4800 range you need the assistance of a 2800 stall and 3.73's to keep the car in that range.

Post the full slips maybe? And how did the weather & 60' compare both times? I don't think the gears are hurting you as much as the stock TQ converter. The HSR shifts the powerband up. Mismatched parts, that's the issue here.

Both the gears and the stall are hurting u big time. I agree... upgrade to 3.73's at least and a 2800 converter. What are your cam specs? Normally they indicate what stall and compression u should run with that particular cam.
