Oil pressure

Hello guys,

I have a 1997 Silverado k1500 with a 5.7 Vortec. The truck has about 175000. Recently I have noticed I have an oil pressure issue. When the engine is started cold the pressure will be up around 50lbs. When the engine warms up it drops to just a little over 20lbs at idle. When cruising it is up around 40. I know this isn't of too much concern for an engine of this age. My concern comes from the fact that the needle bounces a bit. It varies maybe 5 lbs while driving around the city. During freeway cruising when the speed of the vehicle is constant the needle does not bounce.

Any tips on where I can start to diagnose this problem? Doing some research I have found that its very rare for an oil pump to blow. So I would think I would not want to start there.

Also there are no unusual noises, and the engine runs good for its age.

Thanks guys

Joe

Re: Oil pressure

Joe,
I think your fine with that. With that amount of miles, I'd be happy.

Read this thread from earlier. It has some good "feel good" info in it.
