Hood or A arms???

I am looking to shave a little weight off of the front of my car this winter and am thinking either tubular front A arms or a fiberglass hood.

I already converted the front suspension of my car to a coil over set up so a set of tubular coilover A arms would be nice. But I am also considering a fiberglass hood.

Which change will result in shaving the most off of my ET? The A arms are unsprung weight wich is always nice to reduce but the factory hood is big and heavy.

Weight wise I would say hood, if you went with a hood like glasstech they are really light. When the money is there get both.

Well take your hood off and put a air cleaner on the motor and run that car at the track and see if that changes anything. Thats free. Just an idea

It is a fuel injected 383 LT1, it does not have a carb.

Sorry my bad, how about a tubular K member. I think that will take off a ton of weight also. Than you don't need to get the anything painted.

Between a hood & a-arms, I'd say hood.

You get visual improvement as well as a weight loss. And your reducing the weight up high, compared to reducing weight down low, for a lower center of gravity from the weight loss.

Re: Hood or A arms???

If I go with a glass hood it will be a stock style, I am not sure that I like the cowl and I realy do not like the ram air.

So I am looking at a little unsprung weight loss with the a arms, or 40lbs or so with the glass hood.

I'm a big fan of the Jongbloed hood. It isn't a copy of any other design & simply enhances the lines that are already there.

hood would give you more...but don't try to run without....any weight gain would be offset but bad aero..

How about Drag Lites?

Don't bother with Tubular Arm/K Member for weight, only do those if you need header/oilpan clearance, you might lose 25lbs at most. (not to mention there expensive, alot of work to install, and pretty good chance there not gonna fit right.)

between the 2, I vote for hood.

Re: Hood or A arms???

The hood is the way to go because it's the biggest body part. I wouldn't drive that tubular suspension stuff on the street. That's why the General sent all that time in Mesa AZ test driving them.

Re: Hood or A arms???

I have no issues with driving my car on the street with all the tube stuff, and coil overs on it. Granted its not a daily but I still drive it around and cruises.
