The good part is the 315s clear on my car with the car 1.5 inches lower then stock.

9" with 5.5 would look the same twoards the outside of the vehicle while not having to cut up so much on the inside of the vehicleOriginally Posted by MaNiAk86
looks great matt! could the same look be achieved with an 8" wheel w/ 5.5in bs? cause u dont really "need" a 10" wheel for a 275 8" would be 4.5
oh looks awesome btw

i run a 5" on a 8. tucks a lil bit better, but its not a common backspacing on an off the shelf wheel.
centerlines bout the only one.

man, you make picking wheels waaaaaaaay harder than it should be
. what size tire is on the front?
. what size tire is on the front?haha, they're a 165/80/15 vw tire(they may be 85's...can't remember)...just search ebay for a 165r15 tire and you'll find some pretty awesome deals. i got mine for less than $100 shipped to the door. i went with these instead of a mickey thompson sportsman or the like because they're a radial and i'm planning to do more street driving. the mickey thompson/hoosier radial front runners are EXPENSIVE, and no taller than these ones anyways, so i said screw it, and bought the 165r15's.

165's are what you dont want with a lot of street driving. i know everyone runs them, but they arent my choice.
Supreme Member
165s aren't rated for how much the nose of our cars weigh. Remember these were tires for a VW bug not a 3300+ pound car.

i was planning on springing for the sportsmans...i saw a guy blow one of those vw tires at 115 mph and tore up a really nice s10

ya I run the 28" tall sportsmans, I'm happy driving around both on the street locally for cruise nights and at the track.
arg....i'm gonna run 'em for now. the front of my car doesn't weigh as much as the front of alot of other people thirdgens...all al motor, no creature features, no bumper support, batter, nothing...just motor...and a 'glass hood. i've seen tons of people go down the track with these with good results...
the people i've seen have problems with these don't take good preventative maintenance measure to insure that they're not gonna have a problem on the big end. dry rotted tires, low pressure, etc.
we'll see what happends come tax season...

i've ran...run those same 165s just fine, short bursts of speed don't cause nearly as much stress on a tire as continous, long as you're doing the speed limit or passes down the 1/4 you'll be fine. Spend the money elsewhere

no more redlights with the taller tires.

i would imagine a 165 radial tire would handle as much weight as a bias ply front runner...... probably wont handle potholes all that well, though.

main thing about the expensive front runner tires is they weigh half as much as those vw radials and also have alot less drag.Originally Posted by mw66nova

do you know which ones i'm referring to?

very sweet mw. how much room do you have with them on the car? if you hit a bump will the rear hit the inside of the rim? how about turns with the front wheels? how close do they get?

at 130 mph.So do you over speed the tire for a few seconds if you go over 118 mph with the 165s or over load it all the time with a 3200+ lbs car.

I believe all of the 195/70 tires would be...? But he's talking a drag style rim, which would be the 8 ply M/T for vehicles over 3k pounds.
Senior Member
biggesst thing i'm afraid of is if the car gets to where it should be, i'll be running mid 9's at around 140 mph. those vw tires would make me a little nervous, if i was sticking around the 12s and the 11s, i'd probably go that way, but the others just make me feel better lol.

ive had vw tires mounted on telstars (which are very close in weight to a prostar).Originally Posted by mw66nova

those weights i would imagine would be PER TIRE. so if you have a pair of tires rated for 900lbs on the front of the car,(1800# total) then youd most likely be alright running them on a 3000# car if you figure a 55/45 weight distribution. i know i have been so far, and so has hundreds of other guys.

Hoosier Pro Street Radial: 26x7.5-21lbs each $162/each

neither tire is available in anything taller than a 26" tall tire, (i'd really like a 28") and i'm going back to a radial rear tire, and i don't like the sloppiness of the bias plys up front.

i run a 205/75/15 tire on the front of my car for 5 years. no issues on a 4" rim. drove it hard for having skinnies.
most brand of tires are 27.1" on a 5.5-6" rim.
mine were very close to a 28" measurement on a 4" rim.
fills up the well and looks killer, IMO.

thanks man! i'll look into those when it comes time to replace these....

stage 20, what wheels are those?
Supreme Member
centerline telstars.

I run 195/65 15s on my dd. Have had them on since may and drive about 450 miles a week. Sharp turns and lots of bumps (normal Louisiana) and they look fine. No unusural wear, have never weighed this car but i would geauss its probly heavy. Never done anything to take weight off.

Senior Member
1320 are you still running stock front brakes? if so how did you get those center caps on the front wheels?

screw roll-out, yank the tires and ride!
If it picks 'em up decent tire roll-out doesn't really matter.

Still running stock brakes, I used a 1.5" spacer.
