Local track's timing system is updated
We were having a lot of problems with our timing system last year and occasional problems in other years. The computer was sent away for updates and repairs. On Sunday, they were working on the timing lights and here's what they found. This is the final year of the track before it gets shut down and we now have an accurate timing system that works. I don't think I would want to race against the daily driver they used to check the lights with.
Last week Gary Gummow of Stewart Weir surveyed the locations of all the down track sensors and found some to be out quite a bunch. We used GPS surveying with a base station and are accurate to 2 millimeters.
Sunday morning, 8:00AM Larry Ernest and I began moving the 1/4 mile ET & MPH sensors to the 1320 foot mark. The left lane was short about 7 inches and the right lane 3 inches. At 10:43AM and 10:46AM we made a pass in each lane with a daily driver. We ran 17.244 @ 81.97 in the left lane and 17.238 @ 81.97 in the right lane. Both lanes are now 1320 feet from the guard beams as required by Compulink. A difference of .006 and exactly the same MPH pretty much shows they are the same length. We then moved to the 660 and moved both of the ET sensors. We didn't do the 660MPH, because of the time it took to make the holes in the walls in the proper location for the ET sensors. If anybody has a cement coring drill please contact us.

We had that problem a few years ago. Almost every car here had a dial in for each lane. The currant owners bought the track about 5 years ago and spent a LOT of money repairing it. I still prefer one lane over the other, so I go up as soon as they make the first call. If you want to run a certain lane you line up that way. When it gets to the finals every body seems to be in one lane, then lane choice goes to the faster car.
