Newbie with questions
Hi to all. I'm looking at what I think is an '85 Firebird in a salvage yard. It's a base model V6 car that I can get for a good price. No T-Tops and no body damage. I've been here for about two days picking threads to read that I think apply to what I want to do. This will be a strip only car. So far I see similar set ups here that have 4:10 gears and 28 inch rear tires. We are planning to build a .040 over 350 with domed Hyper pistons, iron heads with 200cc runners, a big Lunati solid roller and a Turbo 350, with a brake. Or a 'Glide with a brake. Victor intake, carb set up for E85 or straight Methanol, Hooker Super Comp headers and race mufflers. No nitrous this time, all motor. All steel except the hood. I have a 9 inch from a pick up for this, it will need to be narrowed and brackets added. In my reading, I can see that several of you have things figured out, so I'm here with questions. I am aware of the car needing a cage, so I want to know what you think this will run, and any recomendations you have for suspension, etc. I've been to the Spohn site and looked around, as well as Ed Quay's. Ed had these cars figured out when they were new. I like his K member, but I'm open to suggestions. Most tracks here are 1/8 mile, but Rockingham is very nearby. So fire away, and thanks.

Welcome to TGO and wish you luck with your project.
Best advice? Go to racejunk.com and buy a roller or turnkey car. It will be a lot cheaper than building one from scratch.

Thanks, Stephen. I had already been to RacingJunk.com and everything in my price range is five states away.

I know that feeling. Most of the good deals are also east of the mississippi and a minimum of 1500 miles from me.
