super victor help out any?

I have a 388 stroker. 10:1 comp. Dart 215 platinum ironeagle 64cc chambers non ported. Soild roller .606/.606 lift 286/294 dur. adv. 850 cfm proform carb victor jr intake unported. Engine makes most torque around 4800rpm. Makers most hp around 6500rpm
. Shifting at 6600rpm. Dist locked down at 38*. Turbo 400. 4.11 gears

Currently running stock imported Vic jr. And unported platinum iron eagles

Based on the head flow data I found online for my heads and the Vic jr intake it looks like the super Vic flows alot more equal to my heads. See below.

Dart iron eagles 215cc
Lift. Intake flow. Exhaust flow
.200. 136. 109.
.300. 193. 158.
.400. 239. 198.
.500. 273. 208
.600. 289. 214.
.700. 293. 219.

UNported Super Victor

Roughly 298 averaged across all 8 runners

Unported. Victor Jr. (CURRENT INTAKE)

Roughly 240 averaged across all 8 runners.

Is there any to gain with this?

where does the converter flash too? doesn't the super vic make power to like 8000 rpm? may see a drop in mid range tq. not sure if you have enough cubes for it

Re: super victor help out any?

don't you already have way too small a converter for the combo? I don't see this swap helping at all.

Re: super victor help out any?

depending on your altitude, you might need a bigger carb too, for drag racing anyways...

My father races a 383 with pro topline heads alum. with lil bit bigger cam and but he shifts about where you do. We are at 600ft elv. and hot days it still reads a lil vac.

your heads are good, but I don't think that they will out flowing the intake or carb....

it won't hurt to try

but changeing the intake for a higher flowing one AND keeping the same sized carb usually doesn't do much of anything... You would have to buy a bigger carb or tune your butt off... to see any difference...

I always make drag carbaration like a "funnel"

Very big carb (down tuned to what is needed)
Big intake (port matched to...)
What ever the intake port can do......

I think you already have that....

short answer to your question.... Is there any to gain with this?

Highly dought it, without porting heads or bigger heads

Re: super victor help out any?

Just port the victor JR out. Theres hp to be made there, that jr is a restriction. 10-20hp likely in just getting the plenum sorted out and good port match to the heads. Get that intake flowed and have someone even out the flow across the runners and hopefully gain 20-30 cfm.

Re: super victor help out any?

Torque is a nice thing to have in a motor. Im sure these guys will agree. Torque = useable power. When you take all the torque away from a motor your left with a motor that is either full throttle performance or no performance. So than you end up to be the guy with the 2 inch open headers, 4.56 gears, 5800 stall converter and your printing 11.50 slips.

Leave that Victor JR on there. I would almost be willing to be that if you swapped out a RPM AIR GAP and a 750 carb that your car would run the same number or better.

Re: super victor help out any?

from my own experience with a vic jr. vs. a super vic. I ran the vic jr then went to the super vic and to my surprise I lost a lot of torque and throttle response. I went back to the vic jr and had it port matched to the heads. The ports on the super vic are much bigger than the jr. Also a interesting thing about the RPM air gap manifold is the port size on it are much bigger than the vic. jr

my combo is 355 10.5-1 , 6 inch rod, AFR Comp 195 heads, solid lift flat tappet cam, .548/.560 lift, 261/266@ .05 dur 106 LC on 102 CL, Vic jr manifold, 750 cfm holley built by the CARB shop, 1-3/4 hooker LT.

Re: super victor help out any?

If you're making peak HP at 6500 and only shifting at 6600, you should probably go higher. 7000 rpm shift point would be better as when it shifts, the rpms don't fall too far below the peak HP. Once you get moving, you want to stay around the peak HP numbers. Peak torque just gets you off the line.

Based on those cam specs, you should have a converter that stalls around 4000 rpm.

Re: super victor help out any?

I would port match the vic jr. I did this over the winter and it was worth a full tenth with my setup.

I'm running a 355, 11.5:1, Canfield 220cc heads, solid roller 630/630, Holley 750 HP.
