umm, stall it as high as it will go (usually around 1300 w/ stock converter) at the line. Adjust your TV cable so it will shift right where it is running out of breath. You want to shift right into your powerband on ever shift, you may have to play with the tv cable some (between my first and second trip to the track, I cut of .4 seconds by screwing with the tv cable)

Conventional wisdom is to run the convertor up to a couple hundred RPMs lower than the stall speed. That will give you a little "flash" when you release & floor it. My stock convertor stalls at about 1700, I'd run it up to 1300 when staged. The '57 stalls at 2200, I run it up to 1800 to launch.

The big boys do this with a rev limiter tied to their trans brake that allows them to floor it while the tree comes down. For instance, set the rev limiter at 4500 for a 5000 stall convertor.

If you don't want to fiddle with your TV cable, you can shift manually. It isn't as consistent, but if you're only looking for some good passes, will do. If you're trying to win at bracket racing, either adjust the TV cable or govenor, or get a ratchet shifter. Try a pass in "D" and see how it does. Then try the next one shifting yourself, etc.
