Racing at the track... newbie

Ok, I've never been to the track with my car but would like to sometime in the near future to race my friends '91 GT. I'd be doing this with my daily driving tires which are 215/65R15's and are mild performance tires not meant for the track (not too grippy-and no money to get real slicks).

I know you want to race with as cold an engine as possible but other than that, I have no clue about prepping the car at the line, the start or going through the actual race. Would anybody be up to filling me in here as to what their best experience is in getting good times? Read sig for my specs. Thanks alot!

Totalled it but saved a bunch of parts before it went to the junk yard.
