When you first roll into the lights, you turn on the prestage light. Roll a bit farther and the stage light comes on. Roll a little bit farther and the prestage light goes out. You're now deep staged and almost breaking the beam for the red light.
In theory you are now about 6" closer to the finish line and should get a slightly better ET. You are also closer to getting a red light unless you can adjust yourself to react differently when the green comes on.

87 IROC-Z Pro ET Bracket Race Car
383 stroker (carbed) with double hump cast iron heads and pump gas
454 Big Block buildup now in progress for the 2001 racing season
Best results before the 383 blew up
Best ET on a time slip: 11.857 altitude corrected to 11.163
Best MPH on a time slip: 117.87 altitude corrected to 126.10
Altitude corrected rear wheel HP based on power to weight ratio: 476.5
Best 60 foot: 1.662
Racing at 3500 feet elevation but most race days it's over 5000 feet density altitude!

After turning on both bulbs you move forward until you turn off the top bulb. There pros and cons on this subject. Your reaction times will be better or red light more often. Your et's will be slower because you are closer to the finish line by some 7-8 inches. Some tracks during special events do not allow deep staging expecially using a PRO tree.
Try to practice either way to see which one you like better. MIR will open first weekend in March. So look me up there driving either the TTA or 91 Mustang (danjrus). Capitol opens in February.
See you there, Pete (20-psi)
