Does anybody shift their automatic racing? I have a "92 Camaro with a 305 TBI. The trans is a 700R4. Just wondering if it would help?

If it shifts correctly, you aren't going to help it or speed up the shift by doing it yourself... Manually shifting can be good for eeking out a few extra RPM at the track though if you don't quite like the shift points it does automatically.

Racing from a roll the autos will often not downshift correctly/quickly enough obviously, and a manual downshift may be required though. That's about the extent of it.

I tried manually shifting mine at the track for the heck of it. Didn't help any at all, actually lost nearly a tenth. But mine shifts right where I was manually shifting it at anyway...

I have a 700R4 tranny, and I shift it manually every time at the track. I've found my times are better if I shift manually. If you don't, sometimes it will shift before you want it to. That's just my experiences though, so don't just take my word for it.

I shift my car manually. When I leave it in drive. The damn car shifts at like 4,500. And I hit high 15's or low 16's. But when I shift it manually. I hit consistant 15.1's. But that was with extreme wheel hop and bad traction. So next time I go tracks. Definite mid 14's.
