Best way to launch an Iroc with stock suspension ans 2.77 gears??

It's an '89 Iroc 350ci with a 700R4 trans. Running on the stock suspension and 2.77:1 ratio in the 9-bolt rear. I have heard to bring the RPM's up to about 1000 and just nail it. But doing that I just spin like crazy and get wheel hop. I tried this at the track last year and was pulling 2.2? to 2.3? 60ft times on street Goodyear Eagle GSC-Z rated tires with real good tread. It has only basic bolt ons like headers and catback, ported plenum, and some ignition work, so its stock. I was running in 90 degree heat and pulled a best of 14.2 at 99.4MPH. I did notice that I was running out of RPM's at the end of the 1/4 and had to pull out before hitting redline on every run. That can NOT be right with 2.77 gears!!!Is it possible that I am spinning to much and losing most if not all of 1st gear? How should I launch? I was thinking bring the RPM's up to 1000 and slowly bring the gas to the floor till it gets going and then just hit it the rest of the way.... How does everyone here launch with an auto????

Thanks!!!

the best way to launch is not always to floor it, after holding on to it with the brakes when the light goes green sometimes we tend to think that flooring it would be the best thing to do, not always is this the case, if youre having trouble getting traction the best thing to do is slowly ease into the throttle or you could try flooring it and when you hear or feel the tires spin you could back off a little bit until they stop spinning. either way would work, but l would reccomend some kind of stickier tire to use at the track.

Do not floor it! Wheel spin = loss of 60ft times = slower times period. What you should do is put your foot on the brake, load the torque converter by bringing the rpm's up to about 1200-1500. When you get the last yellow, let off the brake and slowly put you foot to the floor with as little of wheel spin as possible. Trust me on this one! I went from a 2.4-2.5 60 ft time to a 1.82 over the course of a year and a half. Good luck

You're hitting the redline at 99MPH in thirdgear? Doesn't seem possible. Either your tach is way off or you don't have 2.77 gears. My 87 will go all the way to 120 MPH in third without hitting the redline... I have the stock 3.27 9 bolt rear.

I launch my car from idle. When the third yellow ( or many times the green.. lol my reaction times still need a LOT of work ) comes on I just punch it. My 60 ft times are consitantly 2.0X It spins a little, but not too badly. If I try to bring the RPMs up at all to launch the 60 ft times get very bad.
