need some help on autoX
need some help on autoX
ok heres the deal: i am about to buy a 84 SC camaro just for autoX and other SCCA events.
i want to be in the Street Modified class, so i need to bring the weight down as much as possible (obviously).
I will put in a LS1/t56, i heard the LS1 saves around 100lbs over the LT1/L98s.
About how much weight can i save with aluminum heads?
Also can i replace some steel up front with fiberglass in this class?
Any other weight saving tips or other info for a starter is much appreciated.

First, get yourself an SCCA rule book. This will be invaluable while you decide what mods to make.
Second, have a quick look here:
http://www.scca.org/amateur/solo2/classes/st_tour.html
Not a whole lot of detail, but some information.
Third, start visiting here:
www.sccaforums.com
There is a Street Mod forum and you may get some additional information there. The only problem that I have found is that some of the members at that site don't necessarily want to tell you everything...
As far as the weights go - don't know, but you probably came to the right place.

I hope you meant aluminum heads on a LT-1 or L98 because LS1's are ALL aluminum.
Front weight reduction is going to be kinda rough, I mean the fenders are already plastic, the bumper rail has to stay, and the fenders & doors are already plastic. You can get a lighter hood, and move the battery back.
