Re: New fastest ET

Thank you i appreciate that! And at my track you need a roll bar when faster than 11.49. Not sure i'm ever going to need one with this combo, lol.

Re: New fastest ET

Thanks guys! And yeah i knew the heat would be worth something, because it was causing the carb to stumble and the lines were too hot to touch longer than 2-3 seconds. It was a hot day today too! DA was around 2300 when i made the 11 passes, so maybe come fall i can push it a little further!

I'd be fine with that! I dont want to run any faster than 11.49 this season. Now i just need to work on my reaction times as those are brutal lately with the changing of the car so much, lol.

Re: New fastest ET

Congrats.

I know my LT headers are quite close to my stock metal lines down by the frame. I had thought about doing the same thing. Funny thing is, thats right at my MPH. I might have to make some changes and go try for some 11's myself before I give up racing. lol

Yeah, post your time slip when you get a chance.

Re: New fastest ET

Whatever you do, don't let anyone know that a stock-headed 350 can run deep into the 11's (and yours surely will in good weather). Apparently only the LS engines can do that.

Your 11.91 is close to my 11.89 in a similar DA. My MPH is about 3 higher than yours. I am curious to see the rest of your slip. You are catching my AFR headed engine! Congrats.

Now that you got your slip, have you thought about playing with the jetting to see if anything else is left in it

Re: New fastest ET

Bluegrassz - Yeah, the stock metal lines is where i wrapped them the most, they were too close to the header. So i re routed them and put in the heat shield and wrapped them nice and thick, and it really seemed to help, i couldnt heat my car up past 150. But yeah, with the right 60 foot you should be able to get 11's! I know thats what it took for me, if i hooked it would get my better times! So the track was finally prepped yesterday so it made it alot easier.

Pancherj - Wow, yeah i've been shocked by how well this thing is running. Also, the pic of my timeslip im about to post has my cousin in the left lane, 2000 ls1 camaro. Show's exactly what you were saying!

Orr - I want to do it, but i'd like to do a quickfuel carb, but im still running the q-jet so i know i could pick up a little more with a quickfuel, its just a matter of when i want to do it,lol. Money is the only thing right now!

1gary - Weird that you said that... it was another one of my ideas, my dad told me that's all they used to go back in the day, and we definitely talked about it, but it's not needed anymore.

Anyway here is the pic of the timeslip! Im in the right lane, car #8470. 84 is for my car and the 70 is for my dads buick. In the left lane is my cousin, who has a 2000 ls1 camaro. The date on the track is wrong also, it was yesterday july 29th i ran not the 11th, but oh well! here it is....

EDIT: Sorry the picture isn't loading ill fix it tonight!

Not at all being defensive here.Just deductive logic said to me if hot fuel was effecting you before, that to really cool the fuel before the intake and make it more dense would help you more than just a wrap.Yepper my two cents worth.

I have not been to the track in almost 4 years due to my best friend/race buddy being diagnosed with brain cancer and then died. The last time we were at the track was when I ran the 12.01 Et. You have inspired me to go try for a 11 second time slip in honor of my friend, he wanted that 11.xx so bad. His 72 Nova did 6.29 in the 1/8 mile. Thank you for giving me back something that I thought I had lost, the desire to even work on my car much less go racing.

I will start a new thread in the near future, and good luck with your car.

Bluegrassz: I am very sorry to hear about your friend, and i admire you for wanting to get that 11 second pass for him. I really hope you can get it! I'll be watching your thread!

1gary: The cooling thing is definitely what i am trying to work on. I'm trying to get some more cool air from my cowl hood and less heat from the engine bay.

Thanks,

Do you have any pics of your heat shield and how you ran your lines?

Re: New fastest ET

Quick question... My trans right now is shifting 1-2 shift on it's own and then i am shifting the 2-3 shift. If in the 2-3 shift im taking the rpms to 7000(By what my tach says) and the 1-2 is only going to 6100. Would shifting the 1-2 at 6800 or 7000 where i make peak power on the 2-3 gain me any more 1/4 time? It seems like it should, and i would be 800-900 rpm's short in the 1-2 shift then.

I usually shift 1-2 higher than 2-3. You'll have to try and see what it likes

Oh wow, so my 1-2 shift being 900 rpms below my 2-3 shift is hurting performance then?

depends on gear split and combo. give it a try and see. my th400 combo likes to be short shifted 1-2, then shifted normally 2-3

Okay that's what i was wondering, i figured it was different for different cars. The thing is i would have to keep changing the governor and grinding it to find this out. Maybe ill pick myself up a megashifter. Thanks again guys!

Re: New fastest ET

Alright guys i have done a decent amount of work as of late. I have now installed a B&M megashifter and my 2.5 inch magnaflow dual exhaust with an x-pipe. I took it to the track wednesday night(I've been on vacation so unable to update my progress as of lately) and have mixed emotions on the night.

As for the dual exhaust i am very pleased, as this thing is alot quieter now and i can finally start my car at home and drive it around town and enjoy it in other places besides the track. My overall goal was to have the car run just as well with an exhaust as on open headers so i could have an 11 second street driven vehicle. Well, the exhaust showed a good sign running 112 mph just the same as with the open headers. But now it has so much torque on take off i couldnt get the car to hook for the life of me.

I only made 4 passes that night as the place was packed, and it was a wednesday night test and tune so they never really have a well prepped track anyway. The first pass i got a 1.81 60 foot and ran 12.20 at 111.86 mph. So i was pleased with the mph but the 60 foot was killing my overall ET. So i went back and tried again in the other lane and got a 1.99. So obviously either lane wasnt going to give me the best launch. So i decided to launch at 2000 rpms instead of 3000...2.01 60 foot. Basically i couldnt get the car to hook.

Now i'm sure on a sunday race series the car wouldve hooked fine if not better than with the open headers with the amount of torque it has. So my question is, is there anyway i will be able to get my car to hook with 275/50/15 mt drag radials even on wednesday nights with no prep? I've read the other thread about hooking up it just seems like there are alot of different pieces of information flying around.

My only suspension modifications to date are subframes, lca's, lcarb's, and a panhard bar. I am running my lcarb's in the middle hole. But i was just wondering if some lakewood 90/10 drag struts up front and 50/50 shocks in the back would help keep the tires planted to hook longer?

Oh, almost forgot, as for the shifter it works great! It's really all in how you hook up the cable as i am having no problems with shifting it as other's have had. I didnt get to experiment with the 1-2 shift as much as i would have liked to on wednesday, so i will update on what works best with the 1-2 shift when i get the car to hook.

Awesome news man. I recommend a set or double adjustables now before you add more power.

Re: New fastest ET

Thanks! And yeah that's what i have been reading about, i just didnt know if the double adjustables were to help with changing between radials and slicks so you had adjustments for both? Since im only running a drag radial i didnt know if a non-adjustable would be fine for the power im making.

Would these kyb rear shocks do the trick for adjustables?

Re: New fastest ET

those are single adjustables. they're not bad, and maybe a solution for us lesser powered cars without breaking the bank. that adjusts compression and extension with one ****. the double adjustables have two *****, one for compression valving, and the other for extension valving, and really helps dial in the suspension, especially on a radial tire like we like to run.

Re: New fastest ET

Okay thanks! I always get worried if the part doesnt mention drag racing in its description, that's why i was unsure on it. So would lakewoods non adjustable not be a reliable option for my car as is? I'm not looking for any more power than what i have now really since i cant push anything else out of my vortec heads anyway, lol.

I've been researching the double adjustables and those things definitely are the best choice and im sure can make any car hook on ice, but most places i read about them are on low 10 high 9 second cars. I'm not sure if they would be overkill on price for my car?

Re: New fastest ET

they are pricey. these are a "budget" set:
http://www.racecraft.com/index.php?m...roducts_id=529

i am running a set of competition engineering 3way adjustables on the back of my car...it's been 1.49 60' once. these aren't as consistent as the stranges i posted, but would at least get you going in the right direction.

i'm running lakewood 90/10's on the front

Re: New fastest ET

Wow those are alot nicer on the price. They must be doing something right if they are running that nice of 60 foot times.

Looks and sounds great!! Nice sleeper, even with the cowl hood and a bit of lope from the idle, who would guess it runs high 11's.

Mark.

Thanks! Yeah, i get alot of guys at the track asking where my nitrous is, and on the wednesday test and tunes mustang guys who dont come often always go up to the starter and tell him they want to "embarass" the camaro in front of their buddies. Ive never talked to them nor had i talked to them that day. I had no problem whooping on them though.

mw66nova: I was just wondering what the part number is on your ce drag shocks? I'm having a hard time finding a pair that they say fit our camaro's on summit.

I tell them "If you can find nitrous on it, you can have the car." They shut up real quick.

Re: New fastest ET

Okay well just an update! I bought the competition engineering shocks you listed mw66nova and then put them in. Took the car to the track last night, on a wednesday night, and it was packed again so i knew that would be a good test.

I had them set at 50/50 and then went up and i guess i can say they work! I never spun the tires once the entire night, and i got 1.66 and 1.67 60 foots every single time. Also my 1/8 mile et's were 7.6901 3 runs in a row. And i ran 12.10, 12.10, 12.11 and then another 12.10. So it was also very consistent! But that was in a DA of around 2600 so when the track is prepped better on a sunday and it gets cooler out i will hopefully be in the 11's again with my exhaust on.

Re: New fastest ET

Yeah my rearend just felt tight when i installed them compared to before, where i could push on the back and it was very easy to push down and would fly right back up. I think my problem was more of how bad the old shocks were than that i needed a new high performance drag shock.

Re: New fastest ET

Another quick update here:

Winter is coming up fast and i am trying to get my gameplan ready for it. The two parts i think i will be adding to the collection this year are, a quickfuel 750 carb and then a new torque convertor.

One thing i always had a problem with with the q-jet was a bog off the line and everything beyond that it would perform perfectly. I finally decided that a quick fuel will be my best option and will also get rid of the adapter plate i am having to run.

Next is the torque converter, as of right now i have a 3500 stall. I was thinking of getting an ATI convertor and getting it flashed to around 4000? Would i see a considerable increase with the bigger stall?

Re: New fastest ET

if you go with ATI, they will build it around your combo, and it will flash wherever it's supposed to flash
