Those "stock" cars are very very impressive... what gets me is all the ones i see tend to be 85's...

For the most part they don't run a thirdgen setup rear.. most of the ones have a 4 link.. generally either a th350, or a powerglide.
as far as the intake and heads being stock... the castings are.. but as i've understood they are acid dipped or something crazy to "port" them out.

the cam may have the stock lift, but the duration certainly isn't..

well sure they are allowed extensive and expensive work to a point but to run that time and that mph with long runners
and gm pitiful stock intake is blowing my mind. i would like to know more about his car but cant seem to find any info.

"Stock" must run factory suspension. 4-link cars are in SuperStock. The Stock cars can't use an aftermarket torque arm or LCA. They can box the LCA and install poly bushings.

There is no porting or polishing allowed in "stock". The lift is restricted to .430 or OEM whichever is greater but every other thing like duration, overlap and LSA can be changed. A stocker cam usually won't idle below 1500 rpm.

Many GM stockers run a glide transmission. A 4500 stall converter, 9 x 30 tires and deep gears. They don't have to keep the 10 bolt diff but must run another GM diff so they use a 12 bolt.

After a run the car cannot weigh less than the shipping weight with driver. A 1985 plain jane Camaro with a 305 is listed as having a shipping weight of 3042 pounds. Since most of them are closer to 3500 then that's a lot of weight that can be removed. The trick is to remove as much as possible then put the weight back where it's needed. That same car is also listed as having a factored HP of 235hp. NHRA is pretty accurate as to what's possible from an engine. Depending on the model for that year will determine what class it runs in. The quickest in 1985 is a plain Camaro. Z28, IROC and Berlinetta's are all slower because the shipping weight is higher. This car would have a weight break of 12.94. 3042/235. That would put it in J/SA. The index for J/SA is 12.75 meaning you can't dial in slower than that. The J/SA record is 11.36

So now you have to think, How do you get a 1985 camaro with a 305 to run that quick and still have a full interior, cast iron unported heads, cast iron factory intake, stock pistons and q-jet carb?

Go the race track when they have stock/superstock classes and walk through the pits. Talk to the drivers and ask questions. You would be suprised at what has to be done to get that little bit of power to push the car down the track that fast.

Then there's people like me who don't need to follow those strict rules. I drop a big block into the car, strip it down to nothing and go racing.

well thats alot of great info and all the more spectacular
but still doesnt answer my question about dave casey's car
the record holder in his stock class I or J/STOCK i think
11.22 @ 116 i am just trying to find out about that car.

but i do believe alot of it can be done ,i have a good friend who has a 93 Mustang - the engine is totally stock internally all he has done power wise is headers, exhaust, ram air, timing advanced
fuel preassure and alot of chassis work and a very efficient drivetrain, tremec 5 speed,456 gear, weight 3150 w/driver
and that car has gone 12.84 @ 102 uncorrected. pretty impressive for a stock 5.0.

my times are also uncorrected

I have no idea how to find anything about dave casey's car but even "stock eliminator" doesn't mean it can be driven on the street. Just because it has full interior (at least what you can see), lights etc, these cars are far from stock and could never last long on the street.
