Looking for the coil.

Yeah, I know it sounds lame, but normally a coil is round and has a connector going from it to the distributor right? Well my 84 Z28 has a 305 in it with a four barrel carb. I see the distributor, but I don't see a connector going from the top of it to a coil. All I see is the plug wires going out from it. I can't make out a coil shape anyway in the engine area. So any ideas or where it is so that I can disconnect it to try to start the engine without it? This how they explain it in the tech side to try to see whether the starter or solenoid (spelling is correct) is bad or not. Thanks for any insight.

It rests upon your distributor cap
