First time Firebird owner - Crossfire 305, 83, pics
G'day gents. Purchased my first Firebird today, 1983, but I've owned other GM products [my last project was a 78 monte carlo many years ago. Thank you 'Training Day' for making that car even a bit popular]
At any rate, I was surprised to find it has the Crossfire Injection 305 in it. I'm not sure how I feel about this, as I was going to rebuild a 350 and drop it in.
I'm not after gigantic power numbers, and with 170K it runs decent. Smooth, has power left, but the valve stem seals are shot. It's burning oil.
I'm leaning toward rebuilding this 305 because of the crossfire now. Any thoughts? I've read about crossfire, I understand it can be a hassle, but it also seems it can help gas mileage compared to carb? I think I'm okay with the stock numbers. It would be nice to hit 300 ft lbs of torque, but that's not necessary.
Is there a special master rebuild kit for this engine? Or can I use a 68-85 [?] rebuild kit?
Any thoughts are welcome, but I'm sure all the experts have seen this many times.
Thanks!

Here is a thread you'll probably find interesting:

Torque is not short on the crossfire system and you can easily put a 350 under it (that's what came in the Corvette in 82 and 84)

Thanks for the link
I must study profusely. Luckily the guy I bought it from is local, and does know the crossfire system. He is willing to help. I hear the 350 just needs the corvette 350 injectors and PCM
Whichever route will be had, it will be rebuilt. I assume the block / heads are the same as traditional 305's and I can order a conventional rebuild kit that's common?
