another Hawaii newbie?
Hi guys...
My name is Robert, and some of you (HI Chris, Shawn) know me from other boards as this SN, or BadBlackBuick, or BadBlueSSwithBuickMotor...
I'm not much of an F body guy, but am in the process of parting an '87 GTA, of which I will be pulling motor/trans/ecu/harness for myself...
anyone interested in anything else, please let me know...
Aloha, Rob

Dude, you're in Wahiawa? (DROOL DROOL) Where? I'm right across Schofield's Macomb Gate near Kemoo Farms. My beater is kept in Wahiawa up in the heights. Oh, I need badges. I was planning on painting my car black, too. I need a few things to make mine complete. PM incoming!

Ian, I havent got a clue as to F-body RPO's... I'm a g-body guy by nature
5.0 TPI is what I know... no SPID in the console or anywhere else...
Edit: Based on what I found over at gnttype.org... I would say LB9 5.0 HO MPI...
L03 is the TBI.... correct? damn.. now I have more RPOs to remember...

I've always liked G-Bodies, but yours is in the best condition i've seen so far, most all G Bodies are totally trashed on the roads today, but yours is one sick ride. I'd seriously consider gettin one myself down the road for kicks hehe.

Mine was fortunate... it was one that was not a subsidized police car... I bought it from the original owner back in 2000, it had 70K then... Has 85K now... repainted in the original color in 2002, with new stripes and decals...
BTW, F bodies make good donor cars for G-bodies.... *ducks*

Yeah, I see the rust on the hood, now that I look closer at it. Bummers, but it's not like I would have a place to put it even if you gave it to me for free and it was brand-spanking new, same with the fin.
A Buick GN would be a nice car to own, honestly, especially the T-Types, and ESPECIALLY the GNX's. Yeah, right, like I'll ever own one of those. I've seen only a few T-Types on Island, though. The LO3 is the TBI 305, it replaced the LG4 as the base V8 engine in '88. THe LB9 TPI motor pretty much replaced the L69 as the H.O. motor, even though you could find them both on '85 and '86 cars. A side note, the TPI system was designed for 305 c.i., the L98 350 uses the SAME runners and plenum, so it has a tendency to choke up in the high-end, the torque difference between the LB9 and the L98 isn't a whole lot, really. What was the running condition of the car, or has it rat at all recently?

So, the GTA is a parts car and it runs? Well, if you wanted the motor and goodies, I suppose it would have to...

What dash and gauge cluster does it have? Ian or I might be interested.
That is a clean g-body. My friend is a g-body freak as much as I am an f-body freak. He's gone through 3 or 4 since high school. I still have to ship his '78 t-type up to him one of these days....
F-bodies would make great parts cars for g-bodies- since we got all the good stuff from the factory!

What do you need to know about the gauges? I can check tomorrow?
G body freak? you'll meet me one day... better yet.. ask Shawn... or Chris for that matter...I lost count after about 20...
as far as good parts? some are better, some are not... some g bodies have the 8.5 rear... f cars have better motors... but give me a full frame car anyday...

G-body cars look sweet when decked out in tasteful chrome, they seem to be more of a gentleman's musclecar. More class to them or something like that. However, they're stinking everywhere and most of the ones I see around on the Island are beaters, it's rare I see a good one, just like F-bodies, actually... Maybe I'll get a chance to see them soon. I think there's a T-type running around in Wahiawa heights, near my in-laws place.

I agree that they are a gentlemans muscle car. Most kids nowadays (my age) think that they are gay and ugly. The call em old men cars or some gay ***** name like that. Kids are only into **** these days, oh here's a sample quote from some assclown at my school.... "man you've got a nice z28, but you should check out my 'seo (paseo), and ____'s teg, he'd smoke you anyday he's got a stage two turbo and a stage three intercooler with an ice-man intake." Iceman intake.... wtf is that?! seriously now, people are getting lamer by the day. Everyone's dream car at school is like an RSX-S or a G35 coupe... I still love my Fbody more than anything though, after having driven both an RSX S and a G35, i'd have to say id take a Z28 or an IROC over them anyday... unless I could sell the G35 or RSX n buy a thirdgen and have a fat wallet after.
Back to G-bodies... My cousin's got a 86 SS, and I must say, although they dont handle quite like an F-Body, they have this feel to them that's just well.. priceless. His first car was his brother's accord, but he thought it was lame, so he got the SS. pretty mean car.

Thats funny...
I grew up in the back seat of a 69 Chevelle, and I guess it rubbed off on me...
Wife and I had an '02Z28, but sold it so we could buy a more formidable, purposeful vehicle... dont get me wrong.. I loved the power.. but I really got tired of hitting my head on the roof as I tried to get it...
Musclecar/Ponycar.... whats the difference? IMHO, the comfort of the back seat... speaking of back seats... ever hit your head on the rear glass in a third or fourth gen while going over a bump?
I'd rather have a car I can fit 5 people in and a trunk that can hold two more... (my trunk doubles as a tool box when the car is in the garage)
pvt, where do your in-laws live? I know most of the G body guys...

I looked at it this morning...
4 round clusters...
Speedo(140 MPH)/Tach(6K, 5.5K redline)/Oil & H20/Fuel & Volts
Odometer reads 077900... Do you need the dash and the harness or just the cluster? Give me a call 291-1328... I'll be running around doing errands today...

Nice. I was wonderin' if it was that one of the digital. I've got one of those clusters layin' around from an LB9 GTA, but if Ian doesn't want it and it's in good shape, I'd like a second assembly to modify for a few things.
I'm also interested in the dash parts if they aren't cracked. The GTA's had all the good dash pieces- much more than my base 'bird. I'll give you a buzz this weekend. I've got a few pics I need to load up on sunday night so you can see exactly which pieces I'm lookin' for. (But, I'd buy the dash altogether to get it off your hands.)
By the way Ian, I forgot my camera at work on wednesday so I couldn't/can't load any pics up until sunday... sorry!

If a couple of those are in good shape, I could take them off your hands. I don't need the dash pad... that's the ONLY thing on my car that is perfect, hehe.
Also, which buttons are on that long thin piece hanging over the controls? Is there a gain switch?
Scott

My GTA interior is pretty good, save for a sagging headliner, rip in the driver's seat and a missing center console lid. I can't see shoving digital gages into the beater, unless the Camaro pod I got just doesn't work and I need a replacement, then I'll just bug you, Scott, for the one coming out of your car. Ha, see if that fits in a Camaro dash panel... I'm working all tonight on the beater, though. Maybe tomorrow I can swing up into Wahiawa and see this GTA. My in-laws live in Illiwai street, by the Catholic school and underneath Lelihua HS a bit.
Scott, I know the strip your're talking about, it has the defroster buttons, trunk release and the audio bass-booster controls on it. If the car came with deluxe audio (and I'm sure most GTA's did) then this parts car would have it. The digital gages were not made very often, though, it'll suck when mine break!

If I get a chance, I'll re-do those switches, they shouldn't have both an [ON] button and an [OFF] button, they should be single ON/OFF spring-loaded ones, with an integral indicator light. THREE spaces taken up by what should've been a one-space single unit. Oh, well, it makes it easy to flash the fogs at someone, as you can't really flash the headlights too well.

probably not... no belt... but the clutch turns.... but as I said.. motor/trans ECU and Harness are reserved for me... unless someone really wants it...
My attention is turning again... I may consider selling the motor and trans too... make me an offer...

Anyway, it doesn't have the switches I wanted (the ones Ian mentioned).
As far as I know, all GTA's have a WS6 suspension, so your sway bars aren't worthless. I'm sure someone here could use an upgraded pair.

Ian, I uploaded those pics for you but they all came out bad. I can take clearer ones for you this week, but you'd be better off just searching the boards. My digital camera leaves MUCH to be desired.

Man, that dash looks so plain compared to my GTA... But it would've fit PERFECTLY in my beater... Of course, with me going to a Camaro dash (which works, by the way), the Pontiac clusters will not fit.

Hope your Mom gave you the check... Maybe we can rip all the hardware off the front clip for whatshisname... I've done a little rooting around my two cars for stuff like that... (Headlight motor swaps, joy.)

as for the headlight stuff, the body kit components will all be coming off, so that should make it easier...
(front/rear bumpers, side skirts, etc...) I guess I can shoot some pics and he can point out what he needs...
let me know... I cant get anything in my eyes for a couple weeks while I recover from an eye infection... so I'll be kind of useless... but I have all the tools you will need...
