Turbocharging my 383 T/A Twins?

Ok, I recently aqquired a pair of Garrett GT3267 Turbos (NIB) I'm in the process of doing a full build on my 85 T/A, to include a 383 FI and a t-56. I am using a Holley singleplane with rails and injectors and most likely a ls1 style TB and MAF. anesthes currently has the setup that inspired me to use this intake. I was thinking to go remote mount (Rear) turbos and really need a lot of help as Turbocharging is new to me. I understand the principals (Somewhat) but I have a lot of questions....
Parts I currently have:
1) T-56
2) Seasoned 383 longblock (Currently getting complete rebuild)
3) above mentioned turbo's
Thats about it.
Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated!!
Thank you!

Re: Turbocharging my 383 T/A Twins?

A few things I forgot to add....
1) This is a street car that will be driven (At most) 2-4 times a month for no more than 30 miles round trip
2) I am looking for HIGH boost 15-25 psi
3) It will be intercooled
4) it will use methanol inj.
5) it must be reliable

And of course, it must be FAST!

Re: Turbocharging my 383 T/A Twins?

those turbos have t3 .69 divided entry housings
and are good for 800 hp for the pair

the only rear mount twin setup i have seen is on the vettes.

to use those turbos in a pair to put them at max efficiancy would be right around 425-575 hp

but i would be concerned about spool time with those housing in a rear mount setup
not to mention the headaches of dbl oil lines and charge pipes etc

u could sell thouse and get urself the correct sized single turbo and even get it in ball bearing, though be awar this would require coolant lines run to the rear of the car for the turbo as well, but these are alot easier then the rear mount oiling system

I had no idea ball bearing turbos were cooled by coolant. You wouldn't have to worry about the return oil pump.

Having a hp goal would be a better aim than pressure levels. 800hp should be around 15-17 psi.

yeah the bb turbo chra is water cooled instead of oil cooled, so if he went bb he would have to run 2 coolant lones to the back of the car,the good part is that the coolant is presurized so it dosent need to be pumped back unlike the oil return

so besides the oil feedand return line he would need 2 5/8's or so coolant lines
and easy way to do this would be to take the heater core in hose and send it to the turbo then on the return from the turbo would go to the heater core inlet. u would have to take off the heater control valve though which is no big deal

water cooling is not just limited to ball bearing turbos, you can find them on the bushing style too (i have one in my sled)

Re: Turbocharging my 383 T/A Twins?

Yeah, I was thinking about running a seperate lubrication system for the turbos, mounted in the rear. I figure, if I have to use an electric oil pump any way, I may as well use a seperate system altogether. That eliminates two lines... I have been considering running a single big turbo instead of the twins. I have someone who will buy them off of me for almost double what I paid for them, so I may just take his offer. 800+ HP is my goal... Or at least close....

Re: Turbocharging my 383 T/A Twins?

The most reliable setup in terms of oil is an engine mount turbo setup. Be careful in choosing a pump for the feed in a remote mount setup. A single makes more sense for a remote mount setup. Those two GT series units are smaller than the old T series.......why not just put them in the engine compartment?

Re: Turbocharging my 383 T/A Twins?

I want to be different. LOL plus with the water/air intercooler and the long charge pipe, I think I will have a cooler intake charge. + less underhood heat. What SINGLE turbo would you guys reccommend, and why? What injectors? Keep in mind 800 hp goal.
Thanks for all your responses!!

Re: Turbocharging my 383 T/A Twins?

Ok, still needing a little help here...
What about a cam? Compression ratio? What size exhaust/charge pipes? What size injectors? I should be selling the twin setup this weekend and need reccomendations on what single turbo to get...
Thanks!

To the flywheel, but if I can get those kind of numbers to the wheels, I'll take it!
